Location:

Hybrid work arrangement available: Once settled in the role, you'll have the option to work from home one day a week. The role requires at least two days per week in the office.

24,000-26,000 per annum (depending on experience), pro rata based on a full-time equivalent of 35 hours per week

Responsible for:

Leading the recruitment and onboarding of new volunteers, coordinating their involvement in events, and ensuring they feel supported through timely communication, training opportunities, and meaningful recognition.

Job Summary



You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and effective operation of the charity's volunteer programme. You'll be responsible for coordinating the end-to-end volunteer experience -- from recruiting and onboarding new volunteers to organising their involvement in events and day-to-day activities.

Your responsibilities will include posting volunteer role adverts, maintaining accurate records, supervising volunteers, scheduling and coordinating volunteer participation, and handling enquiries from both current and prospective volunteers. You'll also work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure smooth event delivery and effective volunteer engagement.

A key part of this role is building strong, supportive relationships with volunteers. You'll provide guidance, facilitate training and development opportunities, and arrange recognition initiatives to ensure volunteers feel valued, motivated, and connected to the charity's mission.

To thrive in this role, you'll need to be highly organised, adaptable, flexible, and an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills and a genuine enthusiasm for supporting others.

Principal Responsibilities



Be the first point of contact for volunteer enquiries, providing timely and helpful responses. Co-ordinate the recruitment, onboarding and training of volunteers ensuring a welcoming and efficient experience. Co-ordinate volunteer schedules and attendance to support the smooth running of events and activities. Work with the Fundraising Assistant to support the challenge event volunteer programme including processing application forms, recording information on the CRM system, and providing information to relevant third parties in a timely manner. Attend events (this will involve using flexible working to work occasional weekends and evenings) Supervise certain groups of volunteers, and build strong, supportive relationships with volunteers to foster engagement, encourage retention, and retain a sense of community. Maintain, develop and implement volunteer recognition initiatives to ensure volunteers feel appreciated and valued. Use the CRM to maintain accurate and up-to-date volunteer records. Ensure volunteer appropriate policies and procedures are regularly updated and adhered to. Provide ongoing support to volunteers, including access to training and development opportunities. Monitor and promote volunteer satisfaction and retention through regular communication and feedback. Deliver the dynamic and responsive volunteering programme that provides effective support to all areas of the charity. Support the HR Co-ordinator with administration and ad-hoc projects. Review internal processes and help to implement new and more efficient ways of working. Act as a champion for equality, diversity, and inclusion, actively promoting and upholding these values, and challenge poor or inappropriate practices across all areas of Candlelighters Be a team player with a flexible approach and be adaptable to adhere to changing requirements. Undertake any other duties as reasonably required.

What we're looking for:



Essential:

Experience recruiting, onboarding and coordinating volunteers or working in a similar people-focused role Excellent communication, organisation, and time management skills A friendly, approachable manner with strong attention to detail Confident working independently and as part of a team Comfortable using Microsoft Office and CRM/databases A genuine passion for supporting people and building positive relationships
Desirable:

Experience in a charity or community setting Event coordination or training delivery experience Knowledge of safeguarding, EDI, and GDPR
This particular role is not suitable for family members who are currently receiving support from Candlelighters. This is to ensure they are given the best possible care and support without any potential conflict of interest.

This role is subject to an enhanced criminal record check, which is processed through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The candidate must hold a UK driving licence and have access to a car to get to events.

Some roles may require a Certificate of Good Standing (CoGS) for individuals who have lived outside the UK for more than 6 months in the past 5 years.
