Are you passionate about helping people get the most from North Yorkshire's amazing countryside?
Do you have experience of managing volunteers and would like to put this to use in co-ordinating the work of North Yorkshire Council's Countryside Volunteers in maintaining our public rights of way and unsealed roads?
North Yorkshire Council's Countryside Access Service are looking to recruit a volunteer co-ordinator to manage around 120 of our own volunteers and 20 affiliated volunteer groups who undertake work on our public rights of way and unsealed road networks across the County.
Our Service
Countryside Access Services consists of two teams, supported by a small team of technical officers: Access Maintenance Team responsible for the maintenance of the County's extensive public rights of way network, unsealed road network and coastal path.
Definitive Map Team responsible for keeping the legal record of the public rights of way network, the Definitive Map and Statement, up to date.
The role
As Volunteer Co-ordinator, you will play a vital part in ensuring that volunteer activity is well-organised, effective, and aligned with the Council's priorities. This is an office-based coordination role, not a practical role leading volunteers in the field.
As Volunteer Co-ordinator you will be responsible for ensuring tasks assigned to our volunteers are carried out effectively and efficiently. Our volunteers carry out most public rights of way and unsealed road inspections, surveying and waymarking; post notices and carry out minor works. They play a key role in helping North Yorkshire Council deliver its statutory duty to ensure that the public rights of way and unsealed roads are kept free from obstruction and are easy to use.
The role involves oversight of all volunteer activity; ensuring volunteer reports and inspections are correctly inputted into our management system; maintaining records that record volunteer activity; recruiting training and supporting volunteers and promoting the work of our volunteers both within the Council and to external partners and stakeholders
The post is based at County Hall, Northallerton on a hybrid working basis which enables working from home or other Council offices depending on the requirements of the service. Occasional travel across the County will be required to meet with volunteers and partner organisations.
