Folly Wildlife Rescue is a charity dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned wildlife.
The Volunteer Coordinator plays a pivotal role in managing and enhancing our volunteer programme. This position involves recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers to ensure they are effectively contributing to the Charity's goals.
The ideal candidate will be team-focused, have excellent communication skills, and a keen interest in wildlife and the natural world.
This is a part-time role of 25 hours a week 08.30am to 1.30pm and includes some weekends on a rota. This role extends to full-time 35 hours a week in peak season May, June and July.
Duties
Responsible for the recruitment and support across a variety of volunteering roles, including Wildlife Hospital Volunteers, Receptionists, Land Army, Wildlife Collection Drivers, Fundraising and Educational Talks
Processing new applications in a professional and timely manner
Organising, promoting and running information sessions to promote all aspects of volunteering within the Trust
Working alongside new volunteers as part of their induction, offering training, guidance, and support
Ensuring volunteers understand and work to the Trust's protocols, health and safety guidelines, and bio-security measures
Working with external agencies to provide tailored volunteering opportunities
Maintaining volunteer files and records of training
Managing the volunteer rota, ensuring the hospital has adequate cover
Allocating volunteers to their sections daily to meet the needs of the hospital
Animal care and husbandry when required
Guiding volunteers to achieve a consistent standard in husbandry and cleanliness across the hospital
Being a dedicated point of contact for volunteers, checking in when they are on shift and offering support and motivation
Arranging and partaking in social engagement with volunteers
Managing student applications, including those from overseas, and overseeing their placements
Following all Trust protocols and procedures
Establishing effective relationships with staff
Utilising off-peak periods to focus on administrative tasks, reviewing roles, protocols and guidance, and taking part in working groups to review and plan for the peak season
Working with the media as requested for radio and TV
Skills
Strong supervisory skills with the ability to lead and motivate a diverse group of volunteers.
A confident, assertive but friendly manner
Excellent administrative skills, including proficiency in record management and scheduling.
Demonstrated leadership experience is highly desirable.
A calm and disciplined approach to prioritising your time and workload
Ability to use IT and social media for effective marketing of volunteer opportunities.
A focused and can-do attitude
Dynamic and creative approach to bring new ideas to the role
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling effective interaction with volunteers and staff
