About this Role




We are looking for enthusiastic and caring Volunteer School Meals Supervisory Assistants (SMSAs) to join the team at Coleridge Primary School. This voluntary role is ideal for individuals looking to gain experience working with children in a school setting, especially those interested in pastoral care, lunchtime supervision, or general child development.


You will help ensure that our children have a safe, happy and enjoyable lunchtime - supporting them in the dining hall, helping them with their meals, and leading or joining in with play activities in the playground.


This is a fantastic opportunity to develop skills in child interaction and supervision, understand school routines, and contribute positively to the wellbeing of our children. We offer guidance and support throughout the placement.


Coleridge Primary School is an Outstanding (Ofsted-rated) one-form entry school in the centre of Rotherham. We are part of the Central Learning Partnership Trust (CLPT), working closely with two other schools in the town. KEY PURPOSE OF THE POST.



Supervise children in the dining hall, supporting them with meals and promoting good table manners. Ensure that lunchtime is a safe, happy and sociable time for all children. Encourage positive behaviour and help children manage minor disputes calmly and fairly. Support play activities in the playground, encouraging inclusive games and positive friendships. Respond to minor accidents or issues and seek assistance from staff when needed. Build trusting and supportive relationships with pupils, modelling kindness, fairness and respect. Support the school's safeguarding policies and procedures. Be a positive role model and promote the school's values at all times. Undertake relevant training provided by the school.

CHILDCARE (DISQUALIFCATION) (Applicable to Primary aged Schools)





In accordance with the Childcare Act 2006 and the Childcare (Disqualification) Regulation 2009 the Governors are required to obtain an additional staff disqualification declaration for employees within settings providing care for early years childcare (this covers the age range from birth until 1st September following a child's fifth birthday i.e. up to and including reception age) or later years childcare (this covers children above reception age but who have not attained the age of 8) in nursery, primary or secondary school educational settings, or if when directly concerned with the management of such childcare related establishments. This declaration is to confirm that you are not disqualified 'by association' to anyone currently residing within your household who is disqualified under the Childcare (Disqualification) Regulation 2009
