Chichester Harbour Conservancy is looking for enthusiastic, practical and motivated individuals to join our team of Volunteer Rangers. This rewarding role offers the chance to support our Rangers in caring for one of the South Coast's most important landscapes, while gaining hands-on conservation experience and meeting like-minded people.


What you'll be doing





Volunteer Rangers support Rangers with practical countryside management and access work across Chichester Harbour. Activities may include:


Scrub clearance, coppicing and hedge laying Tree planting and habitat management Carpentry, fencing and boardwalk construction Footpath surfacing and general site improvements Assisting with volunteer work parties, including welcoming volunteers, setting up tasks and helping pack away tools Supporting health and safety on site Helping to create a friendly, inclusive environment for all volunteers

There may also be opportunities to assist Rangers with full-day or more specialised tasks, depending on your interests and experience.


Commitment





We offer flexibility and will agree a commitment that works for both you and CHC. Minimum commitment: one two-hour volunteer work party per term (or equivalent across the year) Additional ad-hoc opportunities are optional


Who we're looking for





You don't need formal qualifications - enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in are key. We're particularly interested in people who:


Enjoy working outdoors as part of a team Are passionate about wildlife conservation and improving public access Can listen, follow instructions and work safely Are reliable, self-motivated and able to maintain enthusiasm during physically demanding tasks in all weathers

Locations





Volunteer Rangers may work at various sites around Chichester Harbour, including Thorney Island, Earnley Triangle (Hayling Island), Fishbourne and Dell Quay. A driving licence is not required, but a willingness to travel is important. Many sites are accessible by bus or cycle, and we will work with volunteers who do not have access to a vehicle.
