We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to support our local charity, Munchkins Miniature Shetland Rescue, based in Colyton, East Devon. We are have a fantastic opportunity to open our first charity shop in Sidmouth and are looking for several Shop Assistants to help run this shop on a voluntary basis. We are initially looking to open for reduced hours on a few days per week, subject to volunteer availability, and would request a minimum of 4-5 hours a week (aka one shift) at the shop. No experience necessary for Shop Assistants, although any experience would be a great help. This position will also be open to Duke of Edinburgh Award students, age 14+. Any under 18's would always be supervised by an adult.
Additionally, we are looking to recruit 1-2 Shop Managers on a volunteer basis. Experience of running a retail shop necessary for the Shop Manager position.
This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about contributing to the community and supporting a local small charity. The position will offer valuable experience in working in a retail setting, and is perfect for students looking to gain work experience, or any adults wishing to give back to the community after retirement/during their free time.
Shop Assistant Duties
:
Provide exceptional service to customers, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere.
Man the register, performing sales and keeping records of takings
Stock shelves and regularly rotate items and displays, to keep the shop looking fresh and inviting
Perform basic cleaning tasks such as dusting/hoovering/polishing display cabinets
Organise donations and price items
Shop Manager Duties
:
All of the above, as well as:
Monitor stock levels & source more stock as necessary
Handle administrative tasks such as banking takings, keeping records etc
Create a shift rota for volunteers and set store opening hours based on volunteer availability
Liaise with the Munchkins Trustees to help get the shop up and running and be a point of contact as needed
Qualifications
Strong customer service skills, with the ability to engage positively with diverse individuals.
Basic skills in using a cash register/card machine desirable, but training will be provided
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment or be comfortable performing shifts alone where necessary
A genuine interest in community service and a commitment to supporting our mission.
