Chester and District Federation of the Blind is seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Community Support Driver and Event Assistant. This role involves providing transportation, assistance during social events, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for partially sighted individuals within our community.

Responsibilities:

Transportation:

Safely pick up and drive partially sighted individuals from their homes to various social events organized by the Chester and District Federation of the Blind.

Ensure a comfortable and secure journey for passengers with visual impairments.

Event Support:

Assist in setting up and organizing social events held at Rosscliffe Rd, Ellesmere Port.

Help in serving food and drinks during events, considering dietary needs and preferences.

Engage with attendees in individual and group settings, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Provide assistance to individuals as needed, including guiding them around the venue and ensuring their comfort.

Communication and Engagement:

Engage in friendly conversations with attendees, making them feel comfortable and valued.

Create a supportive and social atmosphere, encouraging interaction among participants.

Demonstrate empathy and patience when interacting with individuals with visual impairments.

Requirements:

Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

Compassionate and empathetic attitude towards individuals with visual impairments.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to handle various tasks simultaneously in a social event setting.

Respect for confidentiality and sensitivity towards individual needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a similar supportive role.

Basic knowledge of accessibility considerations for individuals with visual impairments.

First aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).

Note: This is a volunteer position. No compensation will be provided but 40p per mile will be available to claim for travel expense.
