Job Description

Job Purpose

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and reliable Female Waking Night Care Assistant to provide one-to-one support to an elderly lady living in Loughborough who has dementia.

The role focuses on providing reassurance, emotional support, safety supervision, and personal care throughout the night, helping the service user to feel calm, secure, and supported during periods of confusion or wakefulness.

This role is subject to a genuine occupational requirement for a female carer due to the personal care needs of the service user, in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Key Responsibilities:



Emotional & Reassurance Support

Provide calm reassurance during periods of confusion, anxiety, hallucinations, or distress associated with Lewy body dementia Encourage and support the service user to rest or return to sleep in a gentle and respectful manner Use clear, reassuring communication and dementia-appropriate approaches at all times
Personal Care & Wellbeing

Assist with personal care as required during the night, including toileting, continence care, washing, and repositioning Support comfort, dignity, and privacy at all times Monitor skin integrity, hydration, and overall wellbeing overnight
Safety & Supervision

Ensure the service user remains safe during night-time hours, including monitoring mobility and reducing fall risks Respond promptly and appropriately to any changes in condition, distress, or night-time behaviours Maintain a safe, calm, and reassuring environment within the home
Dementia-Specific Support

Support symptoms commonly associated with Lewy body dementia, such as fluctuating cognition, sleep disturbances, confusion, and visual hallucinations Use agreed care plans and dementia-friendly techniques to reduce distress and agitation
Record Keeping & Communication

Maintain accurate night-time records, including care provided, observations, and any concerns Report changes in health, behaviour, or wellbeing to the management team and/or family as required Work in line with care plans, risk assessments, and company policies
Person SpecificationEssential

Female applicant (genuine occupational requirement due to personal care needs) Previous experience in care, particularly dementia care or night support A calm, patient, and empathetic approach Ability to remain awake, alert, and attentive throughout waking night shifts Good communication skills and the ability to reassure someone who is confused or distressed Reliability, discretion, and respect for confidentiality Right to work in the UK Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check
Desirable

Experience supporting individuals with Lewy body dementia NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (or willingness to work towards) Experience in domiciliary or one-to-one home-based care Training in dementia care, moving and handling, and safeguarding
