Waking Night Children's Residential Support Worker

Shift Times:

22:00 - 08:30 (10.5 hours) shift patterns on 4 on 4 off rota pattern, this will mean days of working can vary from week to week.

Salary:

13.00 per hour (unqualified) - 14.20 per hour (qualified)

Bonuses:

Up to 1,000 per annum in performance-based bonuses

Responsibilities:

As a Waking Night Support Worker, you are expected to remain awake and alert throughout your entire shift to ensure the safety and wellbeing of each child in your care. This role is essential to providing a calm, supportive, and secure environment during the night hours.

At Lundi Education and Care Services, the safety and wellbeing of the children we care for is our utmost priority. You will be responsible for ensuring their safety throughout the night and must remain alert and responsive at all times. A comprehensive understanding of our safeguarding policies is essential, guiding your actions to protect and support each child effectively.

You will be required to perform regular welfare checks on the children during the night and maintain accurate, detailed records of your observations. Experience using Sue Solutions is preferred but not essential, as training can be provided. Nighttime can be a vulnerable time for children. You must be able to offer empathy, comfort, and reassurance when needed, responding appropriately to any emotional or behavioural needs. You will support children with bedtime routines that are tailored to their individual needs, ensuring a consistent and nurturing approach that promotes a sense of safety and structure. Where appropriate, you may also engage in calming or supportive activities with the children during your shift. You will support the day team by ensuring preparations for planned activities are completed--this could include gathering materials for key working sessions or organising spaces for the morning. During quieter periods of the night, you will maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards within the home and assist with administrative tasks, ensuring all paperwork is accurate and up to date. You are expected to communicate professionally with out-of-hours services, respond to phone calls appropriately, take accurate messages, and handle any queries in a calm and competent manner. In the event that a child goes missing, you must be prepared to follow the correct protocols, including adherence to the Philomena Procedure. All duties should be carried out in line with Lundi Education and Care Services' policies, procedures, and commitment to equal opportunities. You are also expected to be a positive role model for both your colleagues and the children in your care.

A genuine passion for working with young people. Commitment to safeguarding, child development, and emotional wellbeing. Ability to work nights and unsociable hours. Independent, calm, and responsible under pressure. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
