Job Title: Warehouse Operative
Reporting To: Team Leader - Stores & Despatch
Location: Sherburn in Elmet
Department: Stores & Despatch
Hours of Work: 40 per week Mon-Friday

Purpose of the Role



To ensure the effective receipt, storage, handling, and despatch of goods within the warehouse and factory stores. The Warehouse Operative plays a key role in supporting production by maintaining accurate stock control, safe handling of products, and timely preparation of customer orders.

Key Responsibilities



Goods In & Storage

Receive, check, and book in deliveries of raw materials, components, and consumables.

Accurately record deliveries against purchase orders and flag discrepancies.

Safely move, store, and organise stock in designated warehouse and factory areas.

Stock Control

Maintain accurate stock levels using the company's stock management systems.

Conduct regular stock counts and cycle checks.

Report stock shortages, damages, or quality issues promptly.

Order Picking & Despatch

Accurately pick, pack, and prepare customer orders for despatch.

Ensure goods are labelled, palletised, and loaded in line with customer requirements.

Liaise with transport providers and assist in loading vehicles.

Health & Safety

Operate forklifts, pallet trucks, and other equipment safely (training provided if required).

Comply with company Health & Safety, environmental, and quality procedures.

Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment at all times.

Teamwork & Communication

Work closely with the Team Leader, Production, and Quality teams to support smooth operations.

Communicate effectively with colleagues regarding stock, orders, and priorities.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the warehouse.

Person Specification



Essential

Previous experience in a warehouse, stores, or logistics role.

Ability to follow processes and pay close attention to detail.

Good level of physical fitness (role involves manual handling).

Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.

Basic IT skills for stock entry and order processing.

Desirable

Forklift Truck Licence (Counterbalance and/or Reach).

Experience working in a manufacturing or engineering environment.

Knowledge of despatch, logistics, or export documentation.
