Situated at our East Midlands Gateway depot, this role is to provide first level support to the Warehouse Manager in managing the team as they carry out their daily tasks within the operation whilst undertaking all end-to-end warehouse activities, as and when required. Lead by example through the application of KN behaviours, manage individuals' performance and development in line with site objectives. Lead, support, and coordinate warehouse operatives in daily tasks across inbound, outbound, and returns operations.


The Team Leader plays a critical first-line management role, responsible for overseeing a team of warehouse operatives to ensure the safe, accurate, and efficient handling of customer goods. This includes supervising the loading and unloading of goods in accordance with Kuehne + Nagel Contract Logistics Working Instructions, maintaining compliance with safety standards, and ensuring operational targets are consistently met. As part of the site's leadership team, the Team Leader is expected to communicate effectively with team members to ensure clarity around daily priorities, process updates, productivity and safety or quality concerns. The role also supports the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives, fosters a positive team culture, and contributes to the overall performance and service excellence of the warehouse operation. The Team Leader ensures targets, KPIs, and SLAs are met through effective people management, stock control practices, and adherence to Health & Safety (H&S), and site standards.

How you create impact


Allocate resources effectively across all work areas at the start of shift and make adjustments throughout the day to maintain operational flow and performance. Ensure all daily, weekly, and monthly targets, KPIs, and SLA requirements are met, including order dispatch accuracy, on-time performance and stock integrity. Monitor live operation through floor walks, ensuring compliance in performance, accuracy, productivity, 5S standards, hygiene, and overcapacity issues--escalating or resolving promptly the smooth processing of outbound and inbound operations, including timely completion of returns, 3rd counts, and damage reporting. Ensure that the Goods In calendar is managed to ensure a smooth flow of goods into the site. Deal with changes to agreed booking times as necessary. Undertake specific training requirements and become proficient in key areas, IOSH, NEBOSH, Dangerous Goods Supervision and Practical training, which will be provided by KN through a pre-defined training and development plan. Responsibility for all Dangerous Goods operations, including requirement for the supervision of dangerous goods handling, storage, packing and DG note creation. Ensure all returns are recorded, processed accurately, and handled in line with customer expectations and system protocols. Ensure all MHE pre-use inspections, racking checks, and safety observations are completed and recorded in line with corporate safety requirements. Act as a SwiftLOG Super User to support operatives and troubleshoot system-related issues, with SwiftLOG inventory management in setting up new items, support defining and maintaining the storage strategy, execute and develop inventory processes for the existing and growing portfolio of items stocked in the warehouse. Ensure damaged stock is quarantined and made unavailable in WMS in a timely and traceable manner. Support inventory accuracy by ensuring proper labelling and assisting in cycle counts and stock investigations as required. Monitor inventory movement across departments and raise non-conformance reports for deviations or discrepancies in process or system handling. Lead and support a team of operatives by providing clear communication, direction, and feedback on performance. Conduct or contribute to effective team briefs, shift handovers, and daily start-up sessions with accurate and relevant operational updates. Provide hands-on support, coaching, and training to new and existing operatives as directed by the warehouse manager. Monitor individual and team performance, raising concerns to management and contributing to performance discussions where needed. Contribute to a positive working environment by promoting teamwork, accountability, and a continuous improvement mindset. Promote KN behaviours and address negative behaviours in an appropriate manner, where necessary escalate concerns of behaviours to line manager or site management team.
