The overall purpose of the job involvesthe day-to-day operation of the post holders allocated vehicle, the collection and delivery of various types of recycling materials associated with the Councils kerb side collection schemes, recycling centres and recycling points.
Main Accountabilities
You will be responsible for carrying out prescribed vehicle/auxiliary equipment checks and for the safe operation of the vehicle and any associated plant/equipment.
To adhere to appropriate driving guidelines - driver's daily checks, accidents procedure and drivers' procedures. Adherence to Health and Safety at Work Legislation and appropriate codes of Practice.
To complete vehicle daily / weekly record sheets - mileage, fuel, defects etc and return to your line manager on a Daily / Weekly basis.
You are responsible for your own safety and that of any passengers, and for ensuring strict compliance with all relevant Safe Systems of Work.
Ensure that the vehicle is not overloaded. Safe manoeuvring of vehicle on the daily route.
To operate all vehicle systems which ensure the safety and security of the vehicle, staff and the public.
Whilst not driving, you will safely follow through and comply with The Environment Service safe systems of work on the loading of materials into the collection vehicle using the appropriate ancillary equipment of the vehicle.
Ensure that, all materials on the route are collected and spillages cleared, and all containers and gates are secured after collection has been completed.
Complete legibly, accurately and in full, all necessary collection rounds associated documentation.
You will communicate effectively with your team members and members of the public.
You will be required to undertake training activities including Vocational Qualifications deemed relevant to your work activities.
You must be prepared to cooperate in sharing practical experience/skills in the use of plant/vehicle/auxiliary equipment.
Knowledge & Experience
MANDATORY
LGV, C + E licence, Digicard and Valid Driver's CPC
Driving various types and classes of LGV vehicles that may include Artics, 8, 6, and 4 wheeled ridge vehicles and the operating of the ancillary equipment of these vehicles.
Preferably experience in LGV driving in multi drop or collections, carrying out reversing manoeuvres within tight residential areas.
Able to follow set procedures.
General labourer type skills.
Knowledge of safe working practices.
It would be an advantage to have Plant / Machinery experience that may include loading shovel, telescopic loading shovel and forklift, Hiab and driving left hand drive vehicles
