An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Waste Management Delivery Service, and as such, Leicestershire County Council is looking to recruit 4 x Plant Operatives to support the operation of the Council's Waste Transfer Stations (WTS).
We have one position available that will usually be based at Loughborough, working full-time (5 days per week, which will include working weekends, both Saturdays and Sundays every week. Bank Holidays that fall within working patterns could be mandatory but paid at double time.
We have one position available that will usually be based at Kibworth (and Market Harborough) Recycling and Household Waste Sites (RHWS), including Kibworth Waste Transfer Station (WTS). This position's working pattern will be 4 on/2 off and also involve working at Market Harborough RHWS.
We have two positions available that will usually be based at Whetstone RHWS and Waste Transfer Station (WTS), working full-time (5 days per week, which will include working weekends, both Saturdays and Sundays every week. Bank Holidays that fall within working patterns could be mandatory but paid at double time.
Successful candidates will be asked their preference on provisional award; but all candidates must be prepared to be based at any of the three sites on a day-to-day basis, subject to the needs of the Service.
About the Role
You will be responsible for operating a variety of heavy plant and equipment that will include loading shovels, telehandlers, and forklift trucks for the efficient and effective transfer of waste from busy WTS, in strict accordance with safe systems of work. The role will also involve maximising the recovery of recyclables within waste and safely controlling deliveries from private traders and district councils. The role is based on a busy household waste recycling centre/and/or waste transfer station and involves working outdoors. It is expected that the successful candidates will have previous experience of operating loading shovels and telehandlers at waste or construction sites. However, training may be provided to suitable candidates who have no previous experience of operating this type of plant.
All positions will at times require the candidate to work on the Recycling and Household Waste Sites when not operating plant machinery.
About You

A loading shovel ticket (training may be provided to suitable candidates who do not currently have a valid loading shovel ticket)
Access to an appropriate vehicle and a full, Clean & Valid UK Driving License and insurance for business use
A knowledge of waste transfer station operations
A health and safety awareness
Effective time-management and problem-solving skills
A basic level of IT skills
A level 3 award in first aid at work qualification or be able and willing to work towards as necessary.
You must also have an understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.
