Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Waste Yard Operator, based at our Corby site, with flexibility to undertake ad-hoc driving duties as required. This role is physically demanding and hands-on, suited to someone who understands waste management operations and enjoys working in a busy yard environment.

Key Responsibilities

Waste Sorting & Segregation Manual sorting and segregation of a wide range of waste streams, including: Hazardous and healthcare wastes (packaged and containerised). RORO commercial skip waste. Man-and-van general waste. Repackaging, bulking, and preparing waste for storage or transfer in line with regulations. Ensuring containment integrity is maintained at all times. Yard & Machinery Operations Safe operation of yard machinery, including: Telehandler and Counterbalance Forklift Loading and unloading lorries, containers, and skips. Assisting with compaction, baling, and other waste handling equipment as required. Carrying out daily machinery checks and reporting defects. Weighbridge & Records Operating the site weighbridge to record incoming and outgoing loads. Maintaining accurate waste inventories, transfer notes, and stock records. Reporting data and any non-conformances to the Operations Manager. Compliance & Housekeeping Following all company health, safety, and environmental procedures. Keeping the yard clean, safe, and organised. Assisting the team to ensure permit and Duty of Care requirements are met at all times. Driving Duties (Ad-Hoc) Supporting waste collections and site transfers when required. Driving company vehicles to cover peaks in work or staff absence.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential:

Experience in waste/recycling operations with knowledge of hazardous and healthcare waste handling. Valid certificates for Telehandler and Counterbalance Forklift. Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to carry out physical tasks. Ability to complete accurate records and follow compliance procedures.

Desirable:

HGV Class 2 licence (Class 1 an advantage, with enhanced pay). Knowledge of RORO and commercial skip operations. Previous weighbridge operation experience.
