JOB TITLE:

Weekend Cook Reporting to Home Manager

General Scope of the Position

We are looking for a

flexible and experienced Weekend Cook

to join our friendly team in our residential care home. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious, well-balanced meals for our residents, ensuring that dietary requirements and preferences are always met to a high standard.

While this role is

primarily for weekends (Saturday and Sunday)

, there may be occasions when you are required to

cover weekday shifts (Monday-Friday)

during periods of annual leave or absence. You may also be asked to

assist the Chef during the week

as needed.

Principal Duties



The Cook is responsible to the Manager on Duty.

Undertake menu planning in consultation with the Home Manager To prepare, cook and serve of breakfast, main meals, snack cakes, etc in accordance with the specified menu Ensure menus are displayed showing choices Determine quantities to be cooked and size of portions to be served, taking into account diets to meet medical, ethnic and personal needs. Check quantity and quality of stock received and notify supplier of deficiencies Wash dishes used by the Residents from morning tea time and lunch time Daily wash and clean floors, crockery, utensils, work surfaces and other kitchen equipment to ensure necessary hygiene and health and safety standards are maintained in the kitchen. To wear the appropriate clothing, including head wear, is worn at all times and anyone who enters the kitchen Cooperate fully with the statutory inspections and implement recommendation as appropriate. To undertake such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post and to be aware that social activities connected with the home may require voluntary work attendance outside normal working hours To prepare a daily choice of desserts, main, jelly fruit, fresh fruit, ice cream, etc and take it around to the Service Users after they have finished their main course. To order supplies in accordance with the menu and knowledge about Food Cost control. To regularly check and update necessary paper work e.g. Fridge and Freezer Temperature chart, Cooking and Re-heating Log, Hot trolley Holding Temperature Check, Weekly Task Sheet, Food Temperature Log, etc. Ensure correct dating, labelling, storage, rotation of foodstuffs Be aware and knowledgeable about the Residents' dietary needs and requirement

Qualifications

:

Basic Food Hygiene Certificate

NVQ Level II Food Preparation

Experience



Previous experience working in a kitchen providing meals for large numbers

General Aptitude



A liking for older people and ability to relate to them.

Ability to prepare and serve well presented and attractive meals to individual requirements.

Motivation



A positive attitude and commitment to providing nutritious meals and offer a range of choices including to those with specific dietary requirements

Knowledge:



Food Hygiene Regulations

Responsibilities under HSAW Act.

In addition to the above, there are some general requirements that apply to all jobs in the Care Home:

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: 13.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 16 per week
