What you'll be doing
You'll ensure all works are constructed in line with contract requirements. You will be responsible for notifying the Construction Superintendent of any non-conformance needs and assisting with the preparation of reports where required. By actively monitoring site activities, you can identify potential quality issues early and enable timely mitigating actions. Design decisions must be escalated through the formal approval process, rather than being made on-site.
You'll provide timely surveillance updates and contribute valuable information to support KPI reporting. Supporting the team in implementing temporary measures to keep works safe and compliant with quality standards is also essential. Where necessary, you will follow up with proportionate actions, such as issuing communications or convening meetings, to avoid disruptions to progress.
You will develop a thorough understanding of construction drawings, activities, Quality Control Plans, and inspection records. It's vital to oversee and verify that quality inspection records are completed and agreed before works are covered up. Reviewing contractor performance against approved Quality Control Plans, while championing health, safety, environmental and quality standards, will ensure delivery aligns with company expectations.
Who you are
You'll bring a solid foundation in welding, NDT, mechanical engineering or materials, supported by relevant qualifications or equivalent vocational training and experience. A working knowledge of British and European standards (such as RCC-M, BS EN and ASME), along with familiarity with safety-critical documentation like Inspection and Test Plans and End of Erection Status Reports, will be essential to succeed in this role.
Your proven experience in weld inspection on large construction projects, combined with a strong understanding of the engineering construction industry, materials, trades methods and legal requirements, will enable you to maintain high quality standards in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to build strong working relationships with contractors are key.
Ideally, you'll hold a welding inspector qualification (e.g. CSWIP 3.1 or equivalent) and an appreciation of NDT. Higher-level welding and NDT certifications, experience in large power plant projects, and knowledge of pressure systems fabrication and installation would be desirable.
If this sounds like you then we'd love to hear from you!
