Play it Again Sport is a People and Work project that has been working in Rhondda since 2016, historically taking donations of sports kit & equipment, diverting it from landfill to those who need it, and then delivering health & wellbeing activities. These include, for example, running and walking groups, sports activities and chair aerobics. The last few years have seen us diversify our provision successfully experimenting with wellbeing in nature, contrast therapy and other alternative activities.
We want to develop this further and identify other needs. We are very conscious that wellbeing activities can be considered a luxury when people are struggling with the cost of living and we need someone to work with us to explore with local people how to use the natural environment, local groups and social activities to help the wellbeing of our communities.
The Role
We have the opportunity to offer a full-time trainee role for one year from April. The main objective of this role is to support the delivery of extensive and diverse wellbeing provision from Play it Again Sport in order to improve the health and wellbeing of local people through a variety of means, adapted to suit the needs of the community, in order for people to feel healthier and lead happier lives.
The work will involve building relationships (or using existing ones) with local communities and organisations to help us learn how to support their wellbeing in a non-traditional way. We need to understand how best to deliver this provision in terms of location, time, cost, accessibility etc. We want you to generate conversations to understand what is needed and what are the barriers that stop people from getting involved.
From understanding what is needed you will then help us organise and deliver this provision to include, but not limited to: arranging 'taster' sessions to give people the chance to try new things, finding people who can run sessions, co-ordinating events and activities, creating posters and marketing the events utilising social media and local networks, managing attendance using a booking system when necessary, gaining feedback and analysing the activities and shaping future delivery in accordance with insights gained.
As this provision develops we will work together to develop a more comprehensive programme for Play It Again Sport to deliver and/or offer the potential for the development of a new business or CIC to fulfil these needs. This is an opportunity to develop new skills and Play it Again Sport is committed to supporting you to identify future employment opportunities, and helping you to acquire any additional skills or knowledge required for future work .
The role is incredibly diverse and offers many opportunities to evolve and develop Play It Again Sport's wellbeing provision for as many demographics as possible. This work could also offer you the opportunity to develop a role for yourself within the local wellbeing sector.
