Summary
We are currently looking for a Whisky Studio Assistant who will be responsible for supporting the whisky operations team in all activities associated to the whisky studio. The role sits at the heart of the whisky making process and provides a valuable insight into the operations of the distillery and the many processes required in the production of single malt and blended whiskies including cask filling, cask sampling, blending and bottling.
Responsibilities
Administering and managing the product library and upkeep of the Studio sample inventory, often using bulk stock management systems to maintain records.
Controlling all samples coming in and out of the Studio, ensuring all associated paperwork is completed in line with HMRC requirements
Organisation of all samples, and associated records, within the Studio to a very high standard
Sample preparation and dispatch
Assist in the planning and scheduling of maturation operations
Completing colour analysis and ABV measurements for cask samples, ensuring data is accurately recorded in the cask management system
Assisting in the preparation and clearing of all samples (including blended) for sensory analysis
Arrange third party lab analysis of Studio samples and finished products as required
Completion of reports in line with export requirements, e.g. methods of manufacture
Archive room organisation and record keeping
Providing administrative support to the Whisky Operations team
Ensure HMRC compliance is maintained throughout all aspects of the role
Qualifications:
GCSE or equivalent in STEM subjects.
Previous experience in the spirits industry or a related field is desirable but not essential.
Relevant certifications in distillation or sensory analysis are desirable but not essential.
Knowledge and experience in the relevant areas of H&S legislation, HMRC, Environmental Compliance would be desirable.
Skills and Attributes:
Ability to pass sensory assessment.
Excellent administration, organisational and planning skills.
High attention to detail, especially in relation to paperwork processing and record keeping.
Demonstrate that you are computer literate, analytical and competent in the use of excel and data analysis to support the production of reports.
High levels of self-motivation and personal discipline.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Desire for continuous improvement and a passion for innovation.
Ability to easily transport yourself between company facilities whenever needed.
