Elm Legal Services is an award-winning provider of will writing, estate planning, and probate services in the UK. We are seeking an ambitious and experienced legal assistant/drafter to join our team in Bristol.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for drafting wills and supporting documents, including reviewing and proofreading estate planning documents to ensure clarity, accuracy, and compliance with relevant laws. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a legal setting, particularly within private client and possess excellent written communication and proofreading skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Draft and review wills, testamentery trusts, declarations of severance, letters of wishes, and declarations of severance with precision and legal accuracy.
Draft using Willsuite to ensure efficiency and compliance with legal standards.
Proofread documents to ensure correct grammar, punctuation, and legal terminology.
Work closely with legal consultants and estate planners to tailor documents to client needs.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of inheritance laws, tax regulations, and estate planning best practices.
Confidently dealing with client enquiries and liaising with clients when necessary to confirm document details and ensure legal requirements are met.
Maintain client confidentiality and comply with data protection regulations (GDPR).
Key Requirements:
Minimum 2 years' experience in will drafting, legal document preparation, or estate planning.
Strong knowledge of UK wills, probate, and inheritance laws.
Experience using Willsuite for drafting wills and legal documents (or similar software).
Exceptional proofreading and editing skills with a keen eye for detail.
Ability to understand and interpret legal language with clarity and precision.
Experience using case management software and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Highly organised and efficient, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
Legal qualifications (e.g., CILEX, STEP, LLB, or equivalent experience in will writing) are desirable but not essential.
Preferred Attributes:
Previous experience working in a legal firm, will writing company, or estate planning service.
Membership of STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) or IPW (Institute of Professional Willwriters) is advantageous.
Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team-oriented environment.
