About us

The Sheffield College is a further and higher education institution dedicated to providing academic, vocational, and professional qualifications to approximately 13,000 young people and adults annually. Our mission is to transform lives through learning, advocating for inclusivity and diversity at every stage.

Bloom is The Sheffield College's inclusive, specialist post-16 provision for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities. We offer ambitious, person-centred pathways that support learners aged 16-25 in building the confidence, skills and experiences needed to lead fulfilling adult lives.

Our Supported Internship programme is the final step in that journey for many of our learners - a bridge between education and employment, tailored around individual strengths and aspirations. It's a high-impact model of real-world inclusion, and we're looking for someone passionate to lead it from the front.

About the role

As a Work-Based Tutor, you will be the educational lead for our Supported Internship programme. You'll work closely with learners, families, employers and job coaches to design and deliver a meaningful, inclusive curriculum that prepares young people for sustained employment and adult life.

This is a dynamic, autonomous role where no two days are the same. One day you'll be teaching communication or problem-solving skills in a classroom setting; the next, you'll be visiting a student at their work placement, liaising with an employer, or shaping a new partnership.

You'll be part of a small, dedicated team that sees potential - not problems - and who believe in preparing learners for work in ways that are practical, empowering and real.

Key Responsibilities

Design and deliver a work skills curriculum that develops key employability skills including communication, problem solving, teamwork, and workplace behaviour. Work closely with learners, their job coaches and support networks to co-produce individualised learning and placement plans. Liaise with local employers to develop high-quality, inclusive work placements that reflect learners' strengths and interests. Monitor and assess learner progress against EHCP outcomes, employment goals and qualifications where appropriate. Promote independence, self-advocacy and confidence in all aspects of learners' journeys. Support the wider strategic development of Bloom's Supported Internship offer - bringing creativity, innovation and ambition to our model. Maintain strong safeguarding, data and reporting practices across all areas of delivery.

You will bring:

Experience of working with young people with learning difficulties, disabilities or neurodivergence. An understanding of how supported internships operate and the impact that can be gained. Strong understanding of inclusive education and supported employment principles (familiarity with EHCPs is essential). Teaching or training experience (a teaching qualification is desirable but not essential). Confidence in working independently and taking initiative to shape the programme. The ability to forge meaningful relationships with employers, advocate for inclusion, and match learners with opportunities that fit their goals. A belief that all young people can thrive in the workplace - with the right support, time and relationships.
