We are seeking a
hands-on, motivated, and experienced Working Foreman
to lead our workshop. This role requires balancing
practical joinery skills
with
strong leadership
, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
Supervise and lead workshop, ensuring smooth daily operations.
Allocate workloads, monitor performance, and provide support to ensure deadlines are achieved.
Mentor apprentices and junior team members, promoting skill development and maintaining high-quality craftsmanship.
Act as the link between management.
Production & Quality Assurance
Oversee the assembly of SIP panels, timber frames, and bespoke joinery components.
Read, interpret, and work from technical drawings, specifications, and construction plans.
Conduct quality checks to ensure all work meets Premier SIPS' high standards and client requirements.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure all operations comply with company policies and UK health & safety regulations.
Carry out regular workshop safety inspections and toolbox talks.
Report and manage any incidents, hazards, or risks appropriately.
Project Coordination
Work closely with project managers to plan schedules, allocate resources, and track project progress.
Ensure materials, tools, and equipment are available when needed, raising purchase requests where necessary.
Provide progress updates and highlight potential delays or issues to management.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential:
Proven experience as a joiner, carpenter, or foreman in a workshop environment.
Previous supervisory experience within the construction or timber-based manufacturing sector.
Strong understanding of working with SIP panels, timber frames, or similar off-site construction methods.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and construction specifications.
Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Sound knowledge of UK health & safety practices.
Desirable:
Experience in off-site manufacturing or modern methods of construction (MMC).
Familiarity with CNC machining, panel cutting, or precision joinery techniques.
Understanding of CNC programming
Valid UK driving licence.
Relevant health & safety qualifications (e.g., CSCS, SSSTS, or SMSTS).
