Main purpose of role:
To help manage the unit's workshop and direct the practical education of small groups of learners, teaching a range of construction-based skills and providing supervision and care to our students who may have social, emotional and other additional learning needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Manager or designated supervisor:
Model and teach construction skills such as bricklaying, painting and decorating, plus a range of carpentry techniques, to individuals or small groups of children, ensuring safe working practices.
Build positive relationships to become a trusted adult and a suitable role model whilst supporting their personal development.
Monitor individual students' progress and achievements and identify any barriers to success in their work.
Provide emotional support to encourage students to succeed and develop their resilience.
Contribute to the culture and ethos of ALP England to build a positive atmosphere and promote a successful working environment.

Responsibilities and tasks may include the following:
Deliver learning activities in the workshop. Facilitate the progress of individuals (one to one), or groups of students as required.
Contribute to the behaviour management of all students and provide support with unit procedures, reporting concerns as appropriate.
Promote students' independence in learning, reinforcing students' self-esteem through regular praise and encouragement.
Prepare and maintain equipment and teaching resources for sessions and activities when required.
Encourage a health and safety approach to the use of all equipment and materials provided.
Prepare or clear the classroom or workshop as directed before and after sessions.
Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, confidentiality and GDPR, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
Assist with group activities within and away from the provision, such as P.E outings, reward trips or educational visits.
Assist with the implementation of programmes designed by other professionals such as educational psychologists and speech and language therapists.
Liaise with other professional staff and report information from/to parents/carers and contribute to meetings discussing students' progress as appropriate.
Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required.
Assist the unit manager in assessing and reporting student progress across multiple channels.
Complete professional development activities as required.
Undertake other duties and responsibilities as required by the Directors.

Experience:
Experience of construction work with strong practical skills is essential.
Experience working with students who have SEND needs is desirable.
Age:
Applicants must be 18 or older on commencement of employment.
Hours of Work: term time only, 08:30 to 14:30
30 hours per week.
