We are sourcing a candidate to work for a very exciting client. With over 20 years' expertise in welding, plasma cutting, and sheet metal, our client provides tailored fabrication solutions for projects of every scale, backed by a commitment to quality and sustainability.
Location: Thornton, Lancashire, FY5
Pay: 40,000 - 60,000
Shifts: Weekdays
Key Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day operations of the workshop, ensuring projects are completed to specification and deadline.
Lead and supervise a small team of welders, fabricators, fitters, and apprentices.
Plan, allocate, and monitor workloads, coordinating resources effectively.
Effective means of communication within the senior management team.
Uphold stringent quality standards to meet company and client expectations.
Manage inventory, tools, and equipment, including maintenance and repairs.
Support project management with technical advice, costings, and progress updates.
Drive continuous improvement, training, and staff development.
Maintain strong communication with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
Ensure full compliance with health and safety policies and legislation.
Skills and Experience
Proven supervisory/management experience within fabrication, engineering, or manufacturing.
Strong technical knowledge of welding in multiple positions, working with different material thicknesses, and a solid background in fabrication.
Experience in machine shop operations, including CNC lathes and turning machines.
Hands-on knowledge of MIG, TIG, MMA, and flux core processes, with the ability to step in where required (though this is primarily a managerial role).
Skilled in interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
Background in maintaining documentation and accreditation records for jobs carried out.
Ability to track and record job costings, and confidently prepare accurate quotations.
Proactive approach with strong problem-solving ability.
Effective leader with excellent organisational and communication skills.
Confident IT user (Microsoft Office, job management systems).
Ideally based within a 30-minute commute of Thornton, Lancashire.
This role is well suited to a more senior Fabricator/ Welder or senior Machine Shop workshop manager/ supervisor.
Qualifications
Relevant trade qualifications in fabrication, mechanical engineering, or related field.
Health & Safety certifications (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH) desirable.
Forklift, crane, or lifting certifications advantageous.
