The Institute of Making is a unique organisation that explores, celebrates, and investigates materials and processes through a wide range of activities. From large-scale public events to ground-breaking academic research projects, our diverse outputs and many audiences are united by a shared passion for materials and making. On a day-to-day basis, we bring together students and staff from across UCL, to provide a creative home in which to collaborate, innovate, contemplate and experience making from a wide range of disciplines. At the heart of the Institute of Making are our open-access facilities, which include multi-material workshops and the Materials Library.
About the role
------------------
The Workshop Technician is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, administration and health and safety of our workshops and is the first point of contact for people using our space.
The post-holder will provide expertise in a wide range of making techniques. Our technicians need to be able to work across many areas of our workshops and be willing to learn new skills when needed. Although we look for generalists, we appreciate people often have specialisms and currently, we are particularly interested in people who have skills in ceramics and glasswork.
In addition, the technician is required to cover the Ceramics Room which includes ceramic work, glasswork, mould making and casting.
About you

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following criteria:
Must have a degree or demonstrable equivalent experience in a material, making or engineering related subject, which enables them to provide high-level advice to students, fellow staff, and researchers on technical issues.
Must have worked within a student or shared workshop environment with responsibility for several complex tasks. This could include ceramics, fine art, engineering or technical design applications, and the development of innovative projects.
Must be able to use several pieces of precision workshop equipment across a range of disciplines, such as ceramics, woodwork, metalwork, textiles and digital manufacturing.
Demonstrate materials and making related skills, knowledge and passion in at ceramics.
