Objective of the role:
This role involves the supervision of all yard activities to ensure the highest standards of Health & Safety are maintained at all times. You will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with the site's Environmental Permit, as well as strict adherence to RED Industries procedures and Work Instructions.
A key aspect of the position includes the compliant and efficient disposal of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste, aligning with all relevant legislation and best practice guidelines. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining operational excellence and environmental responsibility across the site
.
Main Duties:
Ensure all pre-use forklift truck (FLT) inspections for mobile plant used on shift are completed, reporting any defects or faults to Management promptly.
Carry out site inspections, including daily walk-arounds and scheduled weekly inspections, to uphold site standards and identify potential issues.
Supervise contractors on site, ensuring full compliance with the Permit to Work procedure.
Operate counterbalance FLTs safely in accordance with the COMPANY's P.A.S.S. policy, ensuring all operators maintain the same standard.
Ensure waste is correctly separated and segregated upon arrival, verifying it is safe, secure (with no risk of collapse), and compatible for storage in accordance with HSG 71: Chemical Warehousing guidelines and the site's Environmental Permit. All waste must be appropriately labelled and visible.
Maximise storage capacity in bays by re-palletising materials to enable safe double stacking where possible.
Carry out housekeeping activities during shifts, including sweeping, litter picking, and drum crushing to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Ensure WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) waste is deconstructed within the appropriately permitted building to maximise recovery value and profitability.
Repack materials from Chemsafe 800L containers to cut-off IBCs where applicable to assist with stock control and supply chain efficiency.
Collaborate with Chemists/Waste Checkers to identify compatible materials, ensuring waste is batched correctly from smaller containers (5L-25L) into larger containers (205L drums, IBCs) following the waste acceptance procedure.
Ensure accompanying paperwork for incoming waste loads is accurately completed and filed appropriately.
Request timely dispatch of outgoing waste loads from Site Management to avoid overstocking.
Weigh outgoing waste (where rebates apply) to assist in generating accurate accrual figures.
Securely prepare palletised outgoing waste to ensure it is safe for road transport and to prevent any spillages.
Load outgoing waste in compliance with ADR (European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road) regulations, ensuring it is in a condition suitable for secure transportation.
Accurately complete and file all outgoing waste documentation.
Foster a proactive Health & Safety culture by reporting at least one near miss per month and promptly addressing any identified risks.
Critical Qualifications, Experience, and Skills Prior to Employment
:
Proven experience working within the Hazardous Waste sector, with a strong understanding of relevant legislation and compliance requirements.
Previous warehousing experience, including stock management and safe material handling.
Demonstrable experience in a supervisory role, with the ability to lead a team and enforce safety and procedural standards.
Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck (FLT) licence, with experience operating FLTs in a high-risk environment.
Valid Forklift Truck (FLT) licence.
