Overview:

We are looking for a reliable and hardworking

Yard Operative / Driver

to join our team at

Jack Nicholas Group

. The main focus of this role is to support the day-to-day operations of our yard and workshop, ensuring materials and finished products are handled, stored, and dispatched safely and efficiently.

Driving duties will only be required occasionally, such as when delivering or collecting materials and completed architectural metalwork.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on, physical work in a busy fabrication environment and takes pride in keeping things organised and running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

Yard & Workshop Operations

Unload steel deliveries safely using forklifts, cranes, or manual handling techniques. Organise and store raw materials (sheet metal, box section, beams, etc.) in designated areas. Move steel components between fabrication, powder coating, and dispatch areas. Assist with packing and preparing architectural metalwork for delivery or storage. Help maintain the powder coating and finishing areas -- ensuring cleanliness and safety. Support fabricators and production staff with material handling and workshop assistance as required.

Loading, Deliveries & Driving

Safely load and secure finished products for delivery. Drive company vehicles for local deliveries or collections when required. Check loads against delivery notes and ensure accurate documentation. Carry out basic vehicle checks and report any maintenance needs.

Yard Maintenance & Safety

Keep the yard clean, tidy, and free from hazards. Dispose of scrap metal, waste, and packaging materials safely. Maintain clear walkways and access routes. Follow all company health and safety policies and wear appropriate PPE. Report any hazards, damages, or unsafe practices immediately.

Skills and Requirements:

Valid UK driving licence (required). Experience in a steel fabrication, yard, or workshop environment (preferred). Forklift licence (desirable but not essential). Physically fit and able to lift and move heavy materials safely. Reliable, punctual, and able to work well as part of a team. Good attention to detail and communication skills. Willingness to take instruction and learn new skills.
