As the mine continues to uphold its tradition of supplying high-quality stone to landmark projects, the role of Yard Supervisor is pivotal in ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and the smooth flow of materials from extraction to despatch.
Position Summary
The Yard Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day management of the mines yard operations. This includes overseeing the safe handling, storage, quality control and movement of Bath stone, coordinating logistics for incoming and outgoing deliveries, and ensuring that the yard operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with site policies and statutory regulations. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, be a good communicator and excel in a dynamic working environment.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the measuring, stock piling and loading/unloading of Bath stone and related materials. Ensure the correct and safe handling of stone blocks and aggregates.
Organise and coordinate the logistics of deliveries and despatches. Liaise with the commercial team to confirm delivery and collection arrangements.
Use the stock management and despatch system to maintain accurate records of deliveries/collections.
Comply with health and safety policies and regulations and conduct routine checks of the yard and equipment.
Report hazards, incidents, or near misses without delay to Mine Manager.
Ensure equipment is properly operated, maintained, and inspected. Liaise with Mine Manager/Plant Fitter to ensure that daily checks are completed and any issues are reported.
Maintain housekeeping, and clear access throughout the yard. Allocate storage locations for different grades and sizes of Bath stone, clearly labelling and segregating materials as required.
Monitor, record, and report stock levels. Assist in periodic stocktakes and provide timely updates to the Mine Manager regarding inventory requirements or discrepancies.
Inspect incoming and outgoing stone for defects, damage, or discrepancies, ensuring only quality materials are dispatched or accepted.
Maintain clear communication with the Mine Manager and other teams.
Person Specification - Essential Criteria
Proven experience in a similar yard, warehouse, or site foreman role, preferably in quarrying, construction, or a related industry.
Competence in the safe operation of forklifts/telehandlers and mobile plant
Strong communication skills.
The ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Attention to detail, particularly regarding quality control and record-keeping.
Basic IT skills for logging deliveries, inventory, and reporting.
Desirable Criteria
Experience working in a stone quarry or with natural stone products.
Knowledge of Bath stone characteristics and handling requirements.
First Aid certification.
Mobile plant certificates.
