Job Description

Salary: G10, from 34,314 per annum pro rata, actual salary 28,386 per annum.

Pay award pending of 3.2%

Hours: 35 hours per week, term time.

Cotham School, a successful, vibrant and diverse 11-18 comprehensive school, wishes to appoint two experienced Year Team Assistants to start in this role from September 2025. The successful applicant will have the necessary knowledge, skills and vision to work closely with one of our Learning Co-ordinators (Heads of Year) with a specific year group of students at the school. The role will entail promoting positive behaviour and developing consistent systems and practices so that students can learn in a safe and secure environment.

In addition, they will work alongside their colleagues to develop the school's culture of values-based interactions and to ensure the safeguarding and wellbeing of Cotham students. The successful candidate will also be a key means of support for those students whose behaviour may be a barrier to them making good progress in school and achieving their potential.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB



To work alongside a Learning Coordinator (Head of Year) in promoting positive behaviour and developing consistent systems and practices so that students can learn in a safe and secure environment. To directly intervene to support students whose behaviour is a barrier to their learning. To devise and implement a range of strategies and solutions to ensure that students who may experience difficulties in managing their behaviour in school can demonstrate positive behaviour for learning and make good progress in school To help reduce the incidence of internal and external suspension through preventative and planned intervention work. To support the school's climate for learning and our culture and ethos promoting a culture of high aspiration and achievement amongst students

LINE MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTABILITY



Working within the line-management supervision of the Designated Member of the school's Senior Leadership Team (SLT)

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES



To support the Learning Coordinator in their day to day work with students in the designated year group To support teaching staff in the management of disruptive learners to enable them to focus on teaching and learning To assist in the inclusion of students whose disruptive behaviour manifests itself within lessons and at unstructured times To work with others in providing day-to-day guidance and support for students that cause disruption to the learning of others and be a point of reference for staff and parents/ carers associated with those students when a duty manager referral has been made. To be part of the duty team that monitors and supervises behaviour at the start and during the school day and at the end of the school day in the local area To maintain regular contact with the families of children in need of extra support, keeping them informed of the child's needs and progress and securing positive family involvement. To be available to support other staff at times other than during lessons, taking account of the need for reasonable breaks during the working day To be an active presence around the school buildings and site and respond to incidents as appropriate, including reports of bullying, harassment and internal truancy To assist in the creation and implementation of behaviour plans and monitor their success. To work to raise the self-esteem of all students and where appropriate organise and conduct groups to raise the self-esteem of the most vulnerable students at the school. When necessary to supervise students, who have been isolated from their cohort To articulate and support the school rules and dress codes with all students and their parents To ensure the maintenance of accurate and up to date student information on the school's management information system Working within the safeguarding of children legislation, this post is also devised to support the personal, social and academic development of all students by helping to secure the best possible climate for learning.

IN ADDITION, THE POST HOLDER



Will undertake a general responsibility for the students, buildings and school facilities during the working day ensuring the implementation of all Health and Safety Policies. To undertake First Aid duties as required. Training will be provided for this Will attend appropriate meetings with governors, colleagues, parents and outside agencies relevant to the above duties. Is expected to carry out supervisory duties in accordance with published rotas. Undertake any other duties as from time to time be reasonably assigned by the Headteacher.
