The Afghanistan and Central Asian Association (ACAA) is an award-winning charity promoting the integration and empowerment of Afghan, Central Asian, Ukrainian, and other refugee communities in the UK through a wide array of services.

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Facilitator to lead and deliver youth empowerment sessions for vulnerable young people aged 11-18 from refugee and ethnic minority backgrounds living in York. The project focuses on improving the identification and support for children and young people at greatest risk of harm and exploitation while expanding access to positive opportunities through training, volunteering, and enrichment programs. By integrating prevention-based interventions and community-led initiative, the project aims to empower vulnerable youth, reduce violence, and build social cohesion in York.
Responsibilities:
Prepare, conduct and facilitate regular sessions of the following:
1. Social Cohesion Workshops:
These workshops will focus on
violence prevention,
health, and physical well-being. These workshops will provide young people with education on the causes and consequences of violence, along with practical tools for navigating challenging situations.
Workshops will also emphasise social connections and cultural cohesion, promoting understanding and respect among participants from diverse backgrounds.
2. Youth Social Clubs:
These social gatherings are designed to reduce isolation and foster a sense of community. These sessions will include structured social activities such as games, group discussions, and communal meals, helping young people build friendships, improve communication, and feel more connected to their peers.
3. Youth Arts & Music Workshop:
These workshops will help participants build confidence, develop new skills, and provide a positive alternative to potentially harmful environments. The programme will culminate in a
showcase event where
participants can present their work to their families and the wider community, fostering pride and achievement.
4. After-School Support Session:
These sessions
will provide educational support, including homework assistance and academic workshops focused on core subjects like English, Maths, and Science. They will aim to boost academic achievement and confidence while also addressing mental health challenges through peer support.
Education and Experience:
Background in education, social work, psychology, counselling, or a related field
Experience working with refugees or other vulnerable populations
Experience working with youth
Experience in art and music is desired
Skills:
Strong facilitation and communication skills
Ability to create a safe and welcoming environment for participants.
Proficiency in planning and delivering engaging and informative workshops
Sensitivity to cultural differences and the unique challenges faced by asylum-seekers and refugees
Proficiency in another language, especially Farsi and/or Pashto, is highly valued
A completed DBS check or willingness to undergo one is required for this role
