We're looking for a dedicated and empathetic Young Persons Temporary Accommodation Officer to join our team at whg, providing intensive housing-related support to young people to help them sustain their tenancy with whg. You will be working on an externally funded programme that whg is commissioned to deliver from Walsall Council.
You'll play a vital role in delivering the aims of our Social Justice Strategy - Transforming Lives, working closely with customers to improve tenancy sustainment, reduce the risk of homelessness, and support their journey to independence.
Job Responsibilities
You'll support young people to:
Maintain their tenancies and develop life skills for independent living
Understand their tenancy responsibilities and manage rent and household budgets
Access education, training, employment, and volunteering opportunities
Improve their emotional and physical wellbeing, connecting them with appropriate support services
Build healthy relationships and reduce isolation through community engagement
Develop personal resilience and confidence to make informed, positive life decisions
Move on successfully into long-term, sustainable housing
You'll also be responsible for:
Building strong, trusting relationships that empower young people
Working collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies to ensure coordinated support
Work collaboratively with Walsall Council Transition & Leaving Care Service
Managing safeguarding concerns and risks effectively
Accurately maintaining case notes and contributing to service development
We're looking for someone who has:
Experience in delivering support to young people with challenging and complex needs.
A non-judgmental approach to service delivery with the ability to forge effective working relationships with younger vulnerable customers.
A genuine passion about achieving and sustaining service excellence for our customers.
The ability to prioritise case load and busy schedules, with an organised and methodical approach to work.
The ability to demonstrate high levels of personal initiative and deliver effective service solutions through creation and innovation.
A good understanding of managing risk of harm.
A good understanding of Health & Safety in housing support.
Understanding and implementation of fairness, equality and diversity.
The ability to build strong relationships and work well in a team.
The ability to multi-task and work effectively under pressure, delivering against objectives.
Lived experience of homelessness and/or living in care would be advantageous in this role.
