Job Description

The St Giles Trust seeks a part-time Outreach Worker for its Scarborough Young Women and Girls Outreach Service. The role involves providing tailored support to vulnerable young females, promoting positive choices, and collaborating with partner agencies. 6,857.14 per annum (24,000 FTE)
Please note successful candidates should expect to be appointed at the starting point of the salary scale and consideration may be given to a higher salary depending on the experience of the individual.

Scarborough Young Women and Girls Outreach Service




Our young women and girls outreach service takes provision onto the streets of Scarborough to engage with 'hard to reach' young women and girls. Staff will build trusted relationships and offer person-centred support to:

Be safe Move away from offending/anti-social behaviours Take positive choices
We do this by:

Helping young women and girls understand their own behaviour and consequences Promoting change Working with other support services, including Youth Justice and Early Help teams. Providing educational and empowering interventions to offer alternative, more positive, thoughts and choices.
This service will be offered using one of our specially adapted vehicles to create an identifiable and safe space for young women and girls, allowing interventions to be taken to known areas of concern.


The best results come from partnership working; therefore we will work alongside pre-existing Community Safety teams and a range of agencies to get the best outcomes for those we support. Our ambition is to empower and encourage individuals to engage with mainstream community based services in order to access what they need on a longer term basis.


The casework service run Monday to Friday in office hours, though the majority of this work will be between the hours of 4pm and 8pm weekday evenings. Central office is St Giles Trust office in York. Although this post will be based in Scarborough.


You will be part of a comprehensive, high quality and client focused Yorkshire Team delivering across St Giles Trust that is mindful of, and promotes the organisation's Vision, Mission, Values and strategic aims.

(1) Key Deliverables

To produce individual support plans and risk management plans for those we will be providing ongoing support to. To promote inter-agency collaboration in the support process, and to include appropriate agencies in the delivery of the service. To develop and maintain relationships with partner agencies, including Early Help and Youth Justice teams, and Community Safety partners. To support individuals to access and engage with support agencies. To deliver a holistic support service working independently or with colleagues as the situation dictates; providing a support service that will include confidence building and self-awareness along with interventions aimed at preventing criminal and sexual exploitation, grooming, violence, sharing inappropriate media content. To close cases efficiently and positively, identifying a success plan for the client that will identify agencies that can be used for on-going support and agencies that can be used if serious problems develop in the future. To have links with agencies providing services to the client group, to be aware of referral routes and to actively promote good partnerships and effective joint working. To promote the value of lifestyle changes to the client group. To assist with providing monitoring information and the evaluation of the project. To maintain accurate records of casework and data collection. To implement the policies and procedures of St Giles Trust currently in force. To attend and engage positively with training as required, this includes mandatory training such as Safeguarding and Prevent and other training agreed with your manager To carry out any other similar duties as required, including providing support to other St Giles Trust projects on occasion.

Experience

Experience of working and engaging positively with females and/or young people who are/or are at risk of offending, or other vulnerable groups

Had personal experience of the criminal justice system, served a prison sentence, or still be serving a prison sentence in a prison within reach of Scarborough.
If still serving a sentence:

To be currently eligible for Release on Temporary License (ROTL). On release, likely to be living within commuting distance of Scarborough. To be willing to provide a DBS check and other disclosure as required, including references from the Prison Service Experience of providing support, advice and advocacy and the ability to assess client's needs

Experience in negotiation with partner agencies to establish links to further aims of the project

Experience of engaging successfully with challenging people, for example people who have complex needs, people who are reluctant to discuss their needs, and people who are angry and confused

Qualifications



To have a relevant youth work qualification or equivalent experience.

Knowledge



Knowledge of anti-discriminatory working practices, and the implications of both within the working environment. Practical application of diversity awareness and unconscious bias in employment and treat colleagues and clients fairly and with respect

An understanding of local support services that may be applicable to young people. An understanding of the need to use support plans, to enable people to successfully access support services

Skills & Abilities



Ability to be a flexible and co-operative member of a team Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of the issues faced by our client group, in particular barriers faced by people with lived experience

Strong IT skills including proven experience of using Word, Excel and Outlook in a similar environment. Ability to work with a case database (i.e Meganexus) on a day-to-day basis

The ability to use and develop monitoring systems to record all aspects of the project including actions, outcomes and referrals

Ability to calculate risk and implement safety procedures when engaging with clients in their homes as well as public premises
