Whissendine Youth Group is open one evening a week for the benefit of those aged 11 to 16 who live in or near Whissendine. The group has been running for 18 months during term-time only. Last year we were awarded a grant by Children-in-Need that guarantees us 3 years of operation and that will allow us to expand to year-round meetings. We are looking for a part-time Youth Leader who can take this forward by expanding the range of activities offered (both indoor and outdoor) and increasing membership.
We have a range of indoor sports equipment and games plus craft activities. We also have funding to bring in outside activities such as yoga and dance, and to arrange visits to nearby activity centres.
The group meets on Monday evenings between 4.45 and 6.15 pm in Whissendine Village Hall in Rutland (LE15 7ET). We hope to expand this to include sports activities on the village sports ground during fine weather.
This is a great chance for an enthusiastic person with an interest in young people to develop the existing group into an exciting and vibrant service for the benefit of local youngsters who have little else to do after school.
Responsibilities and Duties:
You will be responsible for arranging activities for the youngsters and for supervising them while they take part. You will have and Assistant Youth Leader and a number of adult volunteers who will help you with this. A detailed job description will be made available to short-listed applicants - in essence it involves planning for and supervising the weekly meetings and liaising with the young people about what they want.
You will be responsible for recruiting and managing the volunteers, and for ensuring that they comply with all safeguarding measures. You will act as the first point of contact for any safeguarding concerns.
You will be responsible to the Youth Group Management Committee on a day-to-day basis and to Rutland First Community Interest Company for financial management and for periodic reporting.
Qualifications and Skills:
You will have prior experience of working with and supervising teenagers, some of whom may be boisterous, and must be aged 18 or older.
You will be expected to obtain enhanced DBS clearance for working with children and will be required to undergo safeguarding training. Any training previously received on working with children, first aid and mental health first aid will be a bonus.
You should be familiar with posting on social media and must have access to emails and texts. Previous experience of managing budgets in the order of 10K per year would be advantageous.
Salary and Benefits:
The job is for 3 hours per week at 14 per hour, increased annually in line with CPI, with paid annual leave
. You will be expected to attend the weekly sessions on Monday evenings, including preparing beforehand and tidying up afterwards, and you will be able to carry out other management functions at a time and location of your choosing.

. Those who are shortlisted will be interviewed in mid October, looking for a start date of Monday 27 October 2025.
