Duration:

12 month fixed term contract

Hours:

35 hours a week. Includes weekdays, weekends and evening work: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday- 1:00pm to 8:30 pm and Sunday 10:00am to 5:30pm.

Driving Licence & Car:

Must have own transport and a valid licence

About the role



As the Youth Project Intern, you will be responsible for welcoming young people into our youth buildings across North Essex, ensuring everything is running smoothly and supporting young people to engage with activities. You will be involved in delivery of our fortnightly youth groups, and our new 18 to 25 groups. Youth groups currently run in:

Braintree Chelmsford Clacton Colchester Harwich Tiptree Witham

Key activities and responsibilities



Supporting youth groups on a regular basis providing games, positive activities and conversations, being accountable for the security and safe working within the sessions. Supporting managing our youth project Instagram account and helping to ensure young people have an active and safe role in our marketing on social media accounts. Having conversations with young people, identifying issues affecting them and how their needs can be met. Being able to actively report concerns to line manager. Ensuring that all projects and work carried out are properly documented and delivered within a budget. Providing evidence in the form of evaluations, feedback and reports in accordance with contracts and funding commitments. Keeping registers, writing evaluation reports and inputting data as required. Keeping up to date with relevant legislations, local and national issues, and best practice in youth work. Ensuring safeguarding and child protection procedures are followed and that the safeguarding of young people is paramount. Carrying out all duties in accordance with The OutHouse policies on Health and Safety, Child Protection and Data Protection, and with relevant legislations. Acting as a role model for young people, inspiring them to engage in the services. Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by The OutHouse. As your role develops at the OutHouse we would look at you providing young people one to one sign up sessions to youth groups. Building relationships with schools and other community groups.

You will be friendly, cheerful, positive, and self-driven, able to work independently and as part of a team. You will be motivated to help young people achieve their fullest potential. You will be able to adapt to young people's needs, think outside of the box and be a positive role model for young people.

Education, Qualifications and Experience



Experience of working with children and/or young people. Experience of organising small scale events and activities. Good understanding of working with the LGBTQ+ community. References and DBS checks will be required. The ability to drive and have your own vehicle.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



Excellent communication skills with the ability and confidence to establish positive relationships with young people and motivate them to participate in activities and events. Very good organisational and administration skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office. Ability to positively represent The OutHouse in meetings and stakeholder events and give presentations. Understanding the importance of monitoring and evaluation in a youth work setting. Positive about embracing challenge and change, open to experimenting, new ideas, reflective practice and working with other organisations. Ability to prioritise effectively and enjoy multi-tasking in a busy environment A good team player, sharing and being open with colleagues. A working understanding of safeguarding children and young people and how to maintain appropriate professional boundaries. A good working understanding of equality and diversity with the ability to challenge discriminatory behaviour.

Community Support



All staff are expected to support and contribute to fundraising and community activities for the OutHouse (with time off in lieu usually being available when they occur outside of working hours), including, for example: OutHouse organised and hosted events Local and regional Pride events (running OutHouse stands and marching) Assisting with running OutHouse stands at local and regional events

The Jack Petchey Foundation Internship Programme


As part of this role, the successful candidate will be part of the Jack Petchey Internship Programme with 18 other interns from different youth organisations in London and Essex. This development programme will involve attending a residential launch conference, four professional development workshops through the year and a celebration event at the end of the programme. The successful candidate will receive an extra training bursary of 1,000 for approved training and will be matched with a mentor from another organisation to help support their professional development. The Jack Petchey Internship Programme training days and events will take place in person in London and the successful candidate will be expected to take full part in this programme alongside their role at The OutHouse.
