Plymouth City Council's Community Youth Team is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic

Youth Support Worker

.


This role will support the Community Youth Team in delivering the Aims and Objectives of the Blue offer and development of youth provision at Tinside and the Foreshore. Engaging Young People in diversionary and positive activities through a partnership model of delivery with a specific aim of engagement within these environments



This youth programme will be fully participative and inclusive. As they develop, these groups will be more co-produced with the young people themselves as part of their development and empowerment.



The post holder will work with a range of children and young, promoting the personal, educational, creative and social developments of young people, helping them reach their full potential.



This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people across Plymouth. You will help deliver a wide range of targeted and open-access youth work, supporting young people aged 10-19 to develop positive relationships, access support, and make informed choices.



Key Responsibilities:




Direct Support to Young People:



Support the design and facilitate in consultation with young people and partners a range of community youth programmes utilising the youth facilities at Tinside Lido to include weekly open access, targeted and digital provision for young people 10 - 19 - 25 living with SEND

To support in developing partnerships with youth organisations across the city to enhance the offer to young people from Tinside Lido.

To support with the design and recruitment to activities providing young people the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of opportunities in, on and around the water both facilitated by community youth and partner organisations To support with youth activities offered through Plymouth Active Leisure and Plymouth Sound National Marine Park (PSNMP) including PSNMP Swim Safe pool-based weekly sessions. To support with weekly Blue Ecotherapy and Blue Health sessions To work with the detached youth work team to engage young people across the city with blue opportunities in the PSNMP To work with the detached team to engage with young people along the foreshore offering advice and guidance around tombstoning and diversion from ASB Working day / evening and weekend shifts

Programme Coordination and Delivery:




Support the day-to-day running of the street-based youth work team and schools based. Assist in the coordination of offsite trips and diversionary activities, including managing medical plans, transport, and parent/carer communication. Contribute to the development and delivery of targeted youth programmes based on local needs and intelligence.

Administrative and Development Tasks:



Maintain accurate records of sessions, attendance, outcomes, and referrals. Support the effective use of Management Information Systems (MIS) to gather and report data. Contribute to youth engagement through social media, digital platforms, and promotional activities.

Support the development and collection of evaluative feedback from young people and projects (in line with, and in agreement with the wider partnerships)

Safeguarding and Wellbeing:



Work within safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all young people. Build trusted relationships to support and empower young people in making positive life choices. Contribute to a trauma-informed, youth-centred approach that recognises and responds to the challenges young people face.

About You:




You will have experience working with children and young people in a youth work, school, or community setting. You will be skilled in building positive, trusting relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds. You will be an excellent communicator, confident in engaging with young people, professionals, and partner agencies. You will be organised, flexible, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. A relevant youth work qualification or equivalent experience is desirable. Knowledge of local services, safeguarding procedures, and referral pathways would be advantageous. Experience working with young people affected by ASB, exclusion, or risk-taking behaviours is highly beneficial.
