POST TITLE: Youth Worker

LOCATION: Rowlands

RESPONSIBLE TO: Rowlands Manager

HOURS: 15 hours which is flexible @ 14 p/h



One Year Fixed Term Contract with the possibility of extension, this post is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund - Awards for All.



General Role



The Youth Worker will support the day to day running, development and evaluation of Rowlands programme in an efficient and effective manner alongside the Manager, existing youth work team and the young people. Rowlands is a youth project based in Selkirk which provides youth work opportunities to young people aged 11 and above. We run weekly dropins and group work as well as our successful transitions and holiday program. We are also part of the Borders wide Stepping Stones program which supports young people one to one in a variety of settings for as long as they need it. We also look at new an innovative ways in which to engage with young people at Rowlands and in the wider community and this is post is part of the way in which we can do this. We are looking for someone with youth work experience and the administrative skills to plan deliver evaluate their work through Office 365, as well as other apps and social media apps.

This role is made available through the kind grant donation from the National lottery Awards for All. The hours have some level of flexibility depending on the personal commitments of the candidates.

Principle Duties



To engage and support young people through encouraging their participation in the planning, delivery and evaluation of activities both in Rowlands and the wider community To provide informal education sessions in response to the needs of the young people who make up our membership To work alongside young people in accessing opportunities to become involved in volunteering To use and build effective working relationships with learning community partners to allow young people to access the appropriate service/s and to support them into any such service provision Ensure that all information systems, monitoring and evaluation work and report writing are dealt with in an efficient and professional manner and in agreed timescales. To offer assistance when required to the Youth Work Manager and in consultation with young people, partners and volunteers on the development of plans for the direction of the service, including the researching of new opportunities. To manage and maintain accurate and up to date information on existing information systems to capture, activity and impact. To contribute to team meetings, prepare for and attend regular support and supervision sessions and participate in staff training To contribute to our holiday programs which includes the promotion, delivery and evaluation of each event

Satisfactory PVG check Receipt of two supportive references Full clean driving license To observe all Health & Safety requirements when in the workplace To work with Rowlands policies and procedures including but not exclusively in relation to Child Protection, Equal Opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice The post holder will be expected to undertake any additional and appropriate duties as required but not out with the remit of the post. This will also include evening and weekend work which will be agreed in advance.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS



Desirable:



PDA in Youth Work, Health and Social Care or relevant Youth Work Qualification

Being willing to work towards a youth work qualification

EXPERIENCE



Essential:



Experience of working with children or young people in either school or community settings

Experience of the delivery of a range of programmes and activities alongside young people

Experience in planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of project

Computer literate and good understanding of Office 365 system

Desirable:



Experience of working in partnership with community/voluntary organisations

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE



Essential:



A good and up to date knowledge of issues that affect young people

Ability to initiate, develop and sustain effective relationships with young people

Ability to create a supportive and safe environment for young people

An awareness and understanding of setting clear aims and objectives associated with youth service development

Aware of best practice guidelines

Effective time management with the ability to work under pressure

Excellent organisational skills

Experience and understanding of monitoring and evaluation.

Good IT skills including Office 365

This role will be occasional day time work for planning with the majority of the role being evening work. There will be a requirement to support weekend work, although this will be agreed in advance
