1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant - Year 1 (Barnet, NW2)

Full-Time | September Start | 100-110 per day | TEACCH Trained Essential

Are you a dedicated and resilient SEN professional looking to make a meaningful impact? A vibrant and inclusive primary school in Barnet (NW2) is seeking a skilled Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a Year 1 pupil with complex needs starting this September.

About the Role

This role offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to support a bright, energetic child with Autism, who is also a selective mute and displays highly dysregulated behaviour. The pupil presents significant challenges including:

Severe behavioural dysregulation

: Difficulty following instructions when escalated.

Flight risk

: Requires constant supervision and has a history of absconding.

Emotional and communication needs

: Selective mutism and limited verbal interaction during times of distress.
You will be central to ensuring the child feels safe, supported, and empowered to engage with learning. This role will demand strong emotional intelligence, patience, consistency, and a proactive approach to de-escalation and support strategies.

Key Requirements

Mandatory

: TEACCH training and practical experience in implementing structured teaching strategies. Experience working with pupils with Autism and/or significant behavioural needs. A calm, empathetic, and assertive approach to behaviour support and boundary setting. Experience in physical intervention and pupil restraint (training will be provided or refreshed if necessary). Excellent teamwork and communication skills, working closely with SENCOs, teachers, and external specialists.
