Job summary

As a Public Appointments Officer, you'll support the delivery of high-profile Ministerial appointment campaigns to public bodies across Wales. This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the centre of public life in Wales, gaining exposure to recruitment processes, governance, and stakeholder engagement.

Job description

You'll play a key role in ensuring campaigns run smoothly, fairly, and in line with the Governance Code on Public Appointments. You'll work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, developing your skills in project coordination, data analysis, communications, and using digital systems to help attract and appoint the right people to important roles.

Person specification

Your day-to-day will include:

Supporting the end-to-end delivery of public appointment campaigns, from initial planning through to final appointment, working at pace and adapting to evolving timelines. Liaising with colleagues and external stakeholders, including partnership teams, to coordinate campaign logistics and maintain positive relationships. Using the Welsh Government's online recruitment system to set up, manage, and close campaigns. Maintaining accurate records, including tracking appointments and reappointments. Preparing and updating forward-look reports for Ministers, highlighting potential vacancies over the next 12 months. Producing and analysing data to contribute to management information for senior managers and Ministers. Helping to place job adverts by liaising with the Welsh Government's media buying agency to obtain quotes and coordinate advertising. Providing excellent administrative support to the team and responding to queries from applicants and departments. Supporting senior managers with drafting work, as needed.

What we're looking for

We're keen to hear from people who:

Organised and detail-focused - have excellent organisation skills and the ability to deliver a high standard of work when dealing with competing deadlines. Recognising when to escalate issues to Senior management when appropriate. Flexible and resilient - are able to adapt quickly to changing demands and work under pressure when needed. Good communicators - can write clearly and speak confidently with a range of people, including senior stakeholders. IT systems - are comfortable using a range of Microsoft applications and on-line platforms to complete tasks. Analysing data - are able to analyse data and produce clear summaries or reports. Team players - enjoy supporting colleagues and working collaboratively in a small, high-impact team. Eager to learn - are interested in recruitment, governance, or working in the public sector, and want to develop their skills. Good written skills - ability to draft letters, reports and other briefing materials. Experience in recruitment, HR, or public sector work is helpful, but not essential - we value enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to get stuck in.
