Role Overview
Provides support in the safe and efficient running of the Deck Department.
Officer of the Watch. Employed as a Bridge Watchkeeping, and at the Master's discretion, in sole charge of the navigational watch whilst the vessel is at sea.
Assist with maintaining the vessels outfit of navigational charts and nautical publications.
Oversee, as required, loading operations ensuring that vessel is safely and securely loaded and all stability criteria have been satisfied.
Understudy the Chief Officer and Second Officer to help develop management and leadership skills in preparation for career advancement.
Principal Accountabilities
Maintain a safe navigational watch as the Officer of the Watch.
Assist with passage and pilotage planning as required.
Assist with the maintenance of the vessel's outfit of navigation charts and nautical publications, ensuring that corrections are carried out in a timely manner. This is to include electronic charts and publications where carried.
Assist with the testing of all GMDSS and other radio equipment onboard.
Assisting with planned maintenance routines.
Undertake / assist with the duties of a Loading Officer during vehicle deck embarkation / disembarkation and other cargo operations to ensure that the vessel loaded safely, correctly and that the cargo uplift is maximised.
Fulfil all duties as required in accordance with the Muster List during an emergency, drills and exercises or as instructed by the Master / Chief Officer.
Act as Officer in Charge or Supervising Officer for mooring operations as required.
Assist the Chief Officer in the maintenance of Life Saving Appliances onboard.
Assist the Chief Officer in the maintenance of all Fire Fighting equipment onboard.
Maintain (and replenish as required) Medical Locker stores, including first aid kits and defibrillator stock items.
Conduct regular sample testing of vessel's Fresh Water Tanks
Conduct daily vessel computer network server housekeeping routines as required.
Maintain onboard stationary stock levels.
Any other duties as reasonably required by the Chief Officer / Master.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential
+ STCW II/1 OOW (Unlimited) Certificate of Competency
+ Valid ENG 1 Certificate (no limitations)
+ Security Awareness Certificate
+ GMDSS (General Operators Certificate)
+ STCW2010 basic elements:
- Personal Survival Techniques
- Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities
- Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting
- Elementary First Aid
- Medical First Aid
+ Advanced Fire Fighting
+ Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats
+ Relevant certification must be valid for at least 12 months
+ Basic LNG Training (Applications without LNG Training will be considered but this is preferred)

+ Recent Ro/Pax or Pax Experience as OOW
+ Crisis Management and Human Behaviour
