We are seeking a Seasonal Able Seafarer - Deck to join the crew of Scillonian III for the 2026 sailing season. Operating from Penzance on a 2 week on / 2 week off rotation, the role supports safe deck operations, passenger handling, watchkeeping, and general vessel husbandry onboard a busy passenger vessel.



This is a customer-facing role requiring strong seamanship, teamwork, and a safety-focused attitude. The Able Seafarer will work closely with the deck officers to ensure safe operations, a positive passenger experience, and compliance with all safety, security, and environmental requirements.



Minimum Qualifications



Navigational Watch Rating Certificate. Efficient Deck Hand (EDH). Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats (PSCRB) or 6-months sea service to date. Valid ENG1 medical certificate. Up-to-date STCW mandatory training, including refresher courses where applicable.

Duties and Responsibilities



General Responsibilities





Execute orders from the Master and Officers and serve onboard company vessels as required. Comply with all company policies and be familiar with the Safety Management System (SMS). Maintain a professional and respectful approach when dealing with passengers, colleagues, contractors, and visitors. Know muster stations and understand assigned roles within emergency teams. Act at all times in a manner that promotes safety, teamwork, and the reputation of the Company.

Deck Operations





Carry out safe and efficient mooring and unmooring operations, including line handling and operation of deck equipment. Set up, monitor, and secure gangways and access arrangements. Assist with cargo, stores, and baggage operations as directed. Maintain deck areas, access routes, and working spaces in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.

Watchkeeping & Navigation Support





Undertake lookout and navigational watchkeeping duties as required. Develop and maintain proficiency as a helmsman, steering under supervision in accordance with the Master's standing orders.

Maintenance & Vessel Support





Carry out routine maintenance including rope work, splicing, painting, greasing, cleaning, and general upkeep of deck areas. Assist with cleaning and maintenance of accommodation, deck spaces, holds, and machinery spaces as directed. Support the maintenance and readiness of lifesaving and firefighting appliances.

Training & Teamwork





Work effectively as part of a small, professional deck team. Support the training and mentoring of less experienced crew where required. Demonstrate a positive safety culture, reporting hazards and stopping work where unsafe conditions are identified.

Passenger Handling & Customer Experience





Assist passengers during boarding and disembarkation, ensuring safe movement at all times. Provide polite, helpful, and professional customer service to passengers Support the delivery of passenger safety information and ensure muster and safety arrangements are followed. Maintain a tidy, welcoming environment on deck and in passenger-accessible areas.
