Scholars School System is seeking a suitably qualified
Academic Support Tutor
to contribute to the delivery of high-quality academic and language support for students enrolled on
Foundation and Degree programmes in Business and Health and Social Care
.
The role supports Scholars School System's commitment to the

. The post holder will provide targeted academic and ESOL support to enable students to engage effectively with their programmes, meet academic requirements and achieve positive continuation, completion and progression outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver structured one-to-one and small group academic support in
English, Maths, ICT and ESOL
, aligned with programme learning outcomes
Support ESOL learners to develop:
Academic and functional English language skills
Reading, writing, speaking and listening competencies appropriate to higher education study
Subject-specific vocabulary relevant to Business and Health and Social Care
Support students to meet academic standards through:
Development of academic writing, grammar, punctuation and referencing skills
Application of numeracy skills within programme contexts
Effective use of ICT, including Microsoft Office, virtual learning environments and digital academic resources
Support students to understand assessment briefs, marking criteria and academic conventions
Promote independent learning, academic confidence and effective study skills
Work in partnership with academic and student support teams to identify learners requiring additional academic or language support
Monitor, evaluate and record student engagement and progress in line with institutional quality assurance processes
Contribute to the identification of barriers to student success and support the implementation of appropriate interventions
Promote

Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area
Demonstrable competence in supporting
English, Maths, ICT and ESOL
at foundation and undergraduate level
Experience delivering academic or language support within FE or HE
Understanding of the academic standards and expectations of UK higher education
Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
Ability to support students from diverse educational, cultural and linguistic backgrounds
Desirable Criteria:
Teaching or language support qualification (e.g. PGCE, CertEd, CELTA, DELTA or equivalent)
Experience supporting students on
Business and/or Health and Social Care
programmes
Experience working with international students and/or widening participation cohorts
Familiarity with OfS priorities, including
student outcomes, continuation and progression
