Equans is looking for an Account Director to join our team in Wakefield on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, company vehicle or allowance, bonus and benefits package.





The Account Director will lead and manage the delivery of hard facilities management services and lifecycle and variations projects within a complex PFI healthcare environment, ensuring full compliance with contractual, statutory, and performance requirements.



This individual will be responsible for operational excellence, financial performance, risk mitigation, and strategic relationship management with key stakeholders including the NHS Trust, SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle), and internal functions.


What will you deliver?




Operational Leadership




Provide strategic leadership and direction to the on-site account team to deliver compliant, safe, and efficient hard services and projects. Ensure all planned preventative maintenance (PPM), lifecycle, and reactive maintenance works are delivered on time and to agreed standards. Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and value for money across service delivery.

Stakeholder Management




Act as the primary point of contact for client representatives, NHS stakeholders, and the SPV. Build strong, trusted relationships at all levels, representing the FM provider professionally and effectively. Lead client meetings, manage escalations, and resolve disputes constructively and promptly

Financial Management




Own the P&L for the contract, ensuring the delivery of financial targets including revenue, margin, and cost control. Prepare and manage annual budgets, lifecycle fund planning, and financial forecasting. Identify commercial opportunities for contract variations or service enhancements.

People Management




Lead, inspire, and develop a diverse team of managers. Ensure robust workforce planning, training, and succession management strategies are in place. Champion a safety-first culture and compliance with health and safety legislation and company procedures.

Risk & Compliance




Oversee statutory and regulatory compliance, including HTMs (Health Technical Memoranda), SFG20, and other NHS standards. Manage risk registers, incident investigations, and business continuity planning. Ensure personal and team compliance with Company policies and procedures. Ensure adherence to all Statutory Standards and Regulations and Department of Health requirements.

Health and Safety



Provide visible leadership in promoting a strong health and safety culture across the contract. Ensure all FM operations comply with statutory requirements including CDM Regulations, LOLER, PUWER, & COSHH. Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. Ensure robust risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), permits-to-work, and control measures are in place. Deliver safety briefings, toolbox talks, and ensure all staff receive relevant H&S training. Work closely with QHSE teams to meet both corporate and client health and safety standards.

Who are we looking for?




Proven experience as an Account Director / Senior FM Manager within a PFI Healthcare environment. Deep understanding of PFI contract mechanisms, obligations, and FM delivery in acute healthcare settings. Strong knowledge of building services engineering (mechanical and electrical). Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills. Robust commercial acumen with experience managing multi-million-pound budgets. Relevant qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering or Facilities Management). Experience working directly with NHS Trusts and SPVs. Membership of a professional body (e.g., IWFM, CIBSE). Experience of leading through contract variations, benchmarking, and soft market testing processes.
