Job Description

The Accountant will oversee the day-to-day financial management of High Voltage Substation Services Ltd (HVSS), ensuring accurate and timely reporting of all financial activities. This role is hands-on, covering general ledger maintenance, supplier and customer accounts, payroll coordination, and compliance with financial controls.

The successful candidate will also play a key role in managing financial relationships with banks and bonding companies, helping secure project bonds, credit lines, and funding to support company growth.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management



Manage all day-to-day accounting functions including sales and purchase ledgers, bank reconciliations, and cash flow. Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports for directors. Oversee payroll processing, pensions, and statutory returns. Maintain accurate VAT, CIS, PAYE and NI records, ensuring timely submissions. Handle supplier payments, staff expenses, and credit card reconciliations. Support budgeting and forecasting processes across departments.

Bonds, Banking & Finance



Build and maintain strong relationships with banks and financial institutions. Prepare and submit documentation for project bonds, performance guarantees, and financial securities. Assist in securing loans and credit facilities to support ongoing operations and capital projects. Monitor company cash flow, credit exposure, and financial risks. Liaise with auditors, insurers, and other financial partners as required.

Systems & Controls



Maintain the company's accounting system using

Sage 50

(essential). Implement robust financial controls, reconciliations, and approval processes. Support the transition towards more digital financial management tools (e.g., Moss, QuickBooks, or similar). Ensure compliance with company policies and UK financial regulations.

Skills & Experience Required



Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar accounting or finance role.

Proficient in Sage 50 Accounts

(essential). Strong understanding of VAT, CIS, PAYE, and HMRC compliance. Experience working with banks, bonds, or financial guarantees. Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail. Good interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with external partners. Advanced Excel and reporting skills. AAT Level 4 or above (preferred) or equivalent qualification.
