An initiative-taking and meticulous Accounts Assistant who will be responsible for covering accounts payable, general bookkeeping, financial reporting and ad hoc tax support. The ideal candidate will be part-qualified (AAT, ACCA, CIMA) or qualified by experience, with strong transactional finance/accounting knowledge and the initiative to support reporting and month-end processes.
This role plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting cash flow management, supporting the annual statutory audit process, and assisting in preparing reports that support business decisions.
Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
Process invoices and credit notes accurately and in a timely manner.
Manage bi monthly supplier and expense payment runs.
Administer employee expense claims and company credit cards, ensuring compliance with expense policies and accurate coding.
Reconcile supplier statements and follow up on discrepancies.
Maintain the purchase ledger and aged creditors report.
General Bookkeeping
Assist with daily bank reconciliations and cash postings.
Maintain general ledger integrity.
Support month-end and year-end close procedures.
Reporting & Financial Support
Support the preparation of monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet).
Assist in compiling data for VAT returns and audit files.
Help with ad-hoc reporting and analysis as requested by finance team.
Supporting the annual statutory audit process, including the preparation of working papers and coordinating audit query responses.
Maintenance of reconciliation files (i.e. between our general ledger, consolidation tool and statutory reporting software)
Tax and Ad hoc Support
Assisting with the preparation of annual corporation tax returns and the inputs to these returns
Maintenance of the asset register (disposals, depreciation etc.)
Assisting with other technical accounting tasks (lease accounting, share based payments, preference share interest etc.)
Accurate and timely invoice processing, ensuring suppliers are paid on time and ledger data is up to date.
Accurate and insightful reporting, supporting the finance team in producing clear, timely reports for decision-making.
Successful month-end closes, with all transactional data processed and reconciled to support financial statements.
Positive supplier and customer relationships, maintained through timely responses and accurate financial records.
Compliance with internal controls, audit standards, and statutory requirements (e.g., VAT).
Skills & Experience
Demonstrable experience in accounts payable, receivable, and bookkeeping.
Strong Excel skills and familiarity with accounting software (i.e., Xero, Joiin, IRIS accounts production, IRIS Business Tax).
Excellent attention to detail and time management.
Strong communication skills and a proactive, can-do approach.
This is a part time role of 24 hours per week.
