Job Summary:
We are looking for a motivated and detail-focused Accounts Assistant to join our busy accountancy practice. This role will support our accountants in delivering high-quality services to a varied portfolio of clients, including sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies. It's a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to build a career in practice-based accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with the preparation of accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
Perform bookkeeping tasks for clients, including processing invoices and bank reconciliations
Prepare VAT returns in line with HMRC regulations and MTD compliance
Assist with the preparation of management accounts and year-end financial statements
Support payroll processing and pension submissions for client businesses
Liaise with clients to collect documentation, resolve queries, and provide support
Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records using accounting software
Support the wider team with ad-hoc administrative and finance tasks
Requirements:
Some experience in a similar role within an accountancy firm (desirable but not essential)
Basic knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles
Familiarity with accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar (desirable but not essential)
Strong Excel and general IT skills
Excellent attention to detail and time management
Professional and confident communication skills, both written and verbal
Willingness to study towards AAT or similar (study support may be provided)
Desirable Qualifications:
AAT Level 2 or above preferred (or currently studying)
Previous experience using cloud-based accounting software
Understanding of VAT, payroll, and CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) is a plus
