Job Description

We are a growing profitable privately owned business based in Talgarth, Powys and now seek an Assistant Accountant to primarily support the Financial Controller and other departments with business and accounting matters.

Essential



You will have three or more years' experience of all aspects of a busy finance department in a commercial environment (although candidates from other backgrounds may be considered) and be an accounting technician or qualified by experience for this hands-on role.

Familiarity with the wider workings of a busy office setting both as part of a team and individually is also needed.

Accurate, methodical and flexible with a confident assured manner with the abilities to be both open and supportive of colleagues, customers, suppliers and other business partners whilst protecting our business and working within our policies are essential for this role.

Required



A good working knowledge of Xero (or other cloud-based accounting software) and experience of other business software and systems and government portals is an advantage, but full training will be given.

Proficient Microsoft office 365 user with good outlook, word and excel skills

Willingness to grow with the role and offer suggestions for workflow improvements.

Work areas



Fixed asset accounting including disposals

Sales and purchase invoice accounting

Bank and cash accounting - knowledge of invoice finance would be helpful

Foreign exchange transaction knowledge and workings

Journals - one off and repeating

VAT returns including PVA adjustments and bad debt adjustments

Customer liaison - including credit control, debt chasing and payment processing

Stock accounting including assisting with periodic stock counts

Deferred sales accounting

Prepayments and accruals

Knowledge of payroll routines including NEST pension submissions

Maintaining hire purchase and loan records

Assisting with accounts preparation - year end and monthly - including all necessary supporting information and schedules and investigating and analysing key variances

Working with external auditors and accountants from time to time.

Some import and export accounting and custom compliance.

Hours 8.30 to 16.30 with 30 minutes unpaid lunch break
