Please note that this role can be performed remotely, with a requirement that the postholder will attend site visits with overnight stays, travel to events, travel to BACP House for meetings and to staff events as required.


BACP's Accreditatio Assessors apply accreditiation standards across the suite of accreditation schemes and support in the development of new accreditation schemes


Principal accountabilities:

Assessing applications for Accredited and Senior Accredited status and resubmissions against identified criteria Providing reports on initial and resubmitted applications for onward dispatch to applicants and/or moderators Assessing and appraising accredited courses and services applying for accreditation and maintaining accreditation status against identified criteria, raising concerns in a timely manner with the LAA Undertaking course and service visits (both in person and virtually) Writing to courses and services seeking and maintaining accreditation status requesting further information as required, writing clear and concise reports detailing any conditions required for successful accreditation. Liaising with moderators over wording and decisions regarding accreditation reports Undertaking regular tele-surgeries with BACP members seeking support with initial applications and deferral reports, facilitating greater understanding of applicants' reports. To take an active role in the writing, development and delivery of other member support activities e.g. webinars/video resources whilst representing and upholding the values and views of BACP and its accreditation scheme/s. Implement decisions and adjustments agreed at standardisation meetings Assisting the LAA in developing, implementing and monitoring accreditation standards and procedures Undertaking ad hoc extra duties, e.g. rewording of deferral report templates and/or project work as required and to agreed timescales. Attending external events to promote accreditation and provide information / support to members


Knowledge & experience required

An accredited member of BACP A qualified counsellor or psychotherapist in current practice Experienced in delivering therapy, supervising case work and experienced as a trainer Familiar with a range of theoretical approaches/modalities Substantial experience in assessment and standardisation processes to established criteria across counselling/psychotherapy courses from level 4 to level 7, coupled with the ability to analyse and summarise information and complex issues into a clear, concise, accurate and accessible form Excellent inter-personal skills with an ability to communicate at all levels, including effective and clear verbal communication by telephone, face to face and presentations A high level of ability in written and spoken English to write clear and concise feedback and reports to applicants Excellent planning and organisational skills, with an ability to work on own initiative and manage multiple tasks; to organise and prioritise own workload whilst adhering to agreed deadlines An ability to engage with, and contribute actively to development and change within the assessment and standardisation processes An ability to mentor and train newly employed staff in assessment processes; collaborate and support others A professional demeanour, experience and flexibility to conduct external assessments within higher/further education and the private sector; liaising with course leaders; chairing meetings and challenging established processes. Experience of RPL/APEL routes * BACP assessors are expected to maintain up-to-date professional knowledge by keeping abreast of developments within the counselling and psychotherapy profession. This includes, but is not limited to, staying informed about updates to BACP accreditation routes, guidance, and criteria. Assessors must ensure their knowledge remains current and reflective of BACP's evolving standards and frameworks and are responsible for integrating such updates into their assessment practice.
