Sturminster Newton Community Building Trust operates The Exchange, a premier community and arts centre in North Dorset. Our mission is to create a welcoming environment that fosters community engagement through music, dance, theatre, and various events.
Summary
We are looking for a highly organised and proactive person to join our friendly team as an Administrative Assistant. The Exchange is a vibrant, community-led arts and activity centre, home to a 300-seat theatre, six meeting and activity rooms, a community cafe, gallery/exhibition and market spaces in the heart of Sturminster Newton.
Main responsibilities include assisting the General Manager and Team in facilitation of variety of activities--including live music, theatre, and general community events, and ensuring an excellent experience is had by all who use The Exchange.
This role requires flexibility and willingness to regularly work evenings and weekends in agreement with the General Manager. Lone working may be required with training and support provided. As the public face of The Exchange, an ability to work competently & graciously with all users of the building is essential.
The Administrative Assistant is responsible for managing reception desk duties, responding to general enquiries by phone and email with efficiency and professionalism, maintaining accurate records through data entry, spreadsheets, and room bookings, and providing comprehensive support to the team with a variety of administrative and general tasks as required.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
Excellent IT knowledge is essential.
Good literacy, numeracy and administrative skills.
Good communication skills and ability to work well with hirers, performers, volunteers and colleagues.
Ability to take initiative, manage own time, and maintain high standards of work.
This is a practical, hands-on role, ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys variety, and is comfortable in a lively community and performance environment. Your contribution will help make our events happen and ensure every visitor, performer, and community member has a positive experience.
