War Memorials Trust seeks an Administrator with initiative, enthusiasm and experience to join the small charity team working to protect and conserve all war memorials within the UK.
The Administrator is the first point of contact at WMT supporting the delivery of all aspects of its work. The successful candidate should be able to support those seeking advice and information through excellent customer service skills. They will demonstrate they are a team player and that they recognise the importance of assisting colleagues. They should have strong administration skills and enjoy the challenge of managing a varied workload as this role covers elements which in larger organisations would be separate roles or even departments e.g. finance, supporter care, grants administration. This reflects the financial constraints of working in a small charity but also offers the Administrator more opportunities to improve their skills and broaden their experiences as they can get involved in all aspects of WMT's work.
Within the Conservation Team the Administrator
supports the technical Conservation Officers and grant applicants through administration of the grant-making process
collaborates with the Public Engagement Officer to provide guidance on war memorial issues, answer non-technical queries and support those getting more involved with war memorials
On the charity side, the Administrator is
responsible for financial record-keeping and the preparation of reports, engaging with members and supporters as well as wider office management.
The role should split 50/50 between conservation and charity work. There is more detail in the and Person Specification below.
Many aspects of the role have established processes to ensure they operate smoothly. An effective Administrator will enjoy working in a structured way but have the confidence to adapt and improve the processes when needed. The role is an opportunity to gain a broad understanding of different aspects of the conservation and heritage sectors with previous Administrators now working in different WMT roles, at heritage bodies, in museums, in politics or for training or livery companies. London staff are based in a shared office space alongside "design professionals, charities and special interest groups" offering an opportunity to meet others in the sector and attend events.
The post may suit a graduate, or someone with equivalent experience, who has an interest in the charity or heritage sectors. The post is full-time and based in the London office but with the opportunity for some home working as the charity supports hybrid working. Some attendance in the office is necessary to deal with post, banking and digitising the paper archive. The charity also has Office Volunteers who support aspects of that work and the Administrator will help manage their activities.
The salary offered is 25,000 per annum for a full-time role. The contract is initially for 1 year with the potential for it to be extended. There is no fixed starting date so this will be discussed with a successful candidate but the charity is keen to get the right person in post as soon as possible. See Terms of Employment below for further details. The initial review of applications will take place on 6th May 2025, with candidates invited to interview after that date. Further assessments will then be undertaken if needed after that.
War Memorials Trust is committed to equal opportunities and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
