Adult Support at The Cavern and Emergency Department
The Adult Support team
provides calm, compassionate, non-clinical support to adults
(18+) experiencing emotional distress, loneliness or anxiety. Operating from both The
Cavern and the Hospital Emergency Department, the team offers early intervention at
times and in places where statutory services are limited. This is between 6pm and 10pm
at The Cavern and 6-11pm at the Emergency Department. At The Cavern, support
workers create a safe and welcoming space through listening, informal activities like
board games and crafts, and gentle encouragement; helping people feel less isolated
and more connected. In the Emergency Department, staff provide reassurance and
practical help to individuals in acute emotional distress, working in partnership with
clinical teams to ensure a trauma-informed, person-centred approach. Funded by the
Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board, this service is built on strong collaboration with
NHS mental health services. Whether in the cafe or the clinical setting, our team helps
people feel seen, supported, and able to take the next step toward better mental health.
