Compass Care provides a safe, engaging, and flexible wraparound care service for children across all age groups. Based within the school, it offers a variety of structured and relaxed activities that support children's wellbeing and development beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

Responding to the individual care needs of children Creating a calm and welcoming environment for rest, relaxation, and play Supporting the delivery of structured, pre-planned activities Assisting in planning and preparing engaging sessions Setting up and tidying away resources Supporting administrative tasks such as registers and daily records

About You

We are looking for a well-qualified and motivated assistant who brings energy, empathy, and professionalism to the role. The ideal candidate will:

Have experience working with primary-aged children Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills Be committed to the values and ethos of The Compass School Show initiative and creativity in supporting children's activities Work effectively as part of a collaborative team Possess good organisational skills Have interests in areas such as music, art, or sport that could enrich the children's experience

The Compass School, Haddington, East Lothian

Hours:

Part-time (16 hours per week)

Salary:

12.77 an hour, working for 16 hours per week, this would result in an annual salary of 9,412 approximately.

Start Date:

January 2026

About the School

The Compass School is an independent primary school in East Lothian for girls and boys from pre-school (nursery) to Primary Seven. Children attending the School enjoy its friendly and caring environment in which they can feel secure and happy and in which they are encouraged to succeed, developing confidence, skills and ability. Its small class sizes allow each child to enjoy a very high level of individual attention. Over the years, it has built up an excellent reputation for providing high quality education and for the excellent results it achieves with its children. In 2022, The Compass achieved Gold status as a UN Rights Respecting School. In recent years, the School has been awarded 'Champion School' status by iTeach and became one of Scotland's first Digital Schools in recognition of its work in digital learning within the curriculum.


The School is located in a beautiful situation in Haddington, which is situated less than fifteen minutes along the A1 from the outskirts of Edinburgh.
